These are the drivers that support the new SLIAA and Ambient Occlusion. Which works in over 20 titles ((probably more I dont have the exact number yet)). Ambient Occlusion can be played with in the nvapps.xml. But it requires some similarities to the engine. IE the WOW engine profile bits would be terrible in other engines.

So far, DMC4 works without rendering errors, L4D works, the h264 hw decoding works, & i got a couple of extra fps in my BR2 HD project.

@ChrisRay: Isn't Ambient Occlusion an exclusive feature of DX10 & above (so, for Vista) ? AFAIK, you need to read the depth buffer samples to calculate it.

Sweeeet... thanks.

I always forget to look in the Vista section.

Wow. I hadn't even heard of this ambient occlusion stuff before now. Looks snazzy and I have 10 games that support it installed, so bonus!

Well, I installed the drivers and don't see a setting anywhere for ambient occlusion.

I think it's Vista only... though I could be wrong. On my CP it is the first entry in the manage 3D settings section.

I don't even see the difference in most games though.

The 185.66 are not working at all in Windows XP 32Bit for me. Every other beta driver is working fine!

I don't see any extra settings either in control panel. Must be Vista only. I do notice with these drivers, when unpacking the exe, the nvapps.xm_ file is no longer there (holds profiles). There is now a file called "NvCplsetupInt.exe". When installing the drivers, the "nvapps.xml" then appears in system32. This was of interest to me personally because I always unpack the drivers, edit the game profiles in nvapps, taking out all those games I do not have, repack it back into the drivers and then install. With these drivers I have to install them first, then go into system32 to edit the nvapps file. Not that big a deal really but am curious why it was changed. Nvidia's "show only games installed" has never worked properly (still doesn't show all games though it is showing Steam games now) so I have always done this method to shorten the list when wanting to access profiles in the control panel. I just hate scrolling for days to find a game.

Anyway, on to some game testing with these drivers. So far played Mirror's Edge for a brief period and it did seem to run smoother than before. The changing from 185.65 to 185.66 in one day is puzzling. Haven't installed the "66" one yet.

The beta drivers worked fine for me but i lost about 5 fps in the Far Cry 2 benchmark so i uninstalled them. This was 1280x960 with 2xAA, maybe i would benefit if i used higher resolution and AA levels...

I personally don't determine the driver by benchmarks as I don't use them (they give me nothing useful that I can actually use). I'm only interested in how the games play with them.

I notice with these drivers, there is no un-install in Add/Remove Programs.

HL2 source games are borked. Lots of issues posted with these drivers. No un-install option in XP. Back to the stable 182.05 for me. Seems these drivers are more Alpha than Beta.

Got a BSOD nvdlkmm... error. Was running Burnout with 32xQ, 16AF, 8AA in game.

I'd confirm both findings... no uninstall-option, even via device-manager.
And yes, HL2 (Sorce-Engine) won't work anymore...

I've used the 185.42 alpha to uninstall the 185.6x.
(setup -> uninstall -> rebbot -> install of 185.42 aborted)

WinXP 32bit SP3, 8800GT

You can uninstall the 185s on Vista through CP... thank god.

I'm on WHQLs now.

Normally you´re right but since i only play FC2 right now, and i assume their ingame benchmark represent how the drivers will perform in that game, i choose the whql drivers with better performance.
