I liked my old ad-aware, SE addition, they are no longer supporting the definition file updates so I need a replacement... I find the new adaware bulky, slow and tedious to use... can anyone else recommend a single good program for removing the kind of Junk ad-aware removes, not even sure what you call this stuff, pop-ups, cookies, spam ...etc - the kind of crap that slows your machine down from visiting web sites...
Something that is fast and does a decent job of catching junk...
Thanks,
Vanz

The best combo for any "anti" bad stuff is Avira Free Edition and Anti-Malwarebytes. I use it and recommend it for anyone who ask me about "anti" software. Give it a try and you'll be very happy.

Will do thanks six... so I see there's a trial version does it work like adaware or does it stop over time and then you have to pay for it?

There is a free version on download.com that doesn't expire.

So I did a scan with adaware, then closed it WITHOUT cleaning the junk, then I did a scan with Malwarebytes to see who catches the most and how close they were. Before I did the scan I visited about 20 randomn websites, not shady sites, but sites like this, cnn, nfl.com ...etc. Here's the results:
Adaware catches : 29 critical object, 19 negligible objects
Malwarebytes catches: nothing
Quite the difference, this concerns me ... Malwarebytes doesn't appear to be catching things very well and it took longer to complete the scan...

So AdAware "picks up" cookies that you haven't cleared out yourself or that may not be a real threat at all? If websites like CNN or NFL.com really put tracking cookies on your PC, I think those organizations would be a bind huh? Hmmm . . . looks like you can clear them out yourself. ;)
I still stand by Anti-Malwarebytes. Because when you get spyware on your machine that gets your data in a pickle, AdAware won't get the job done like Anti-Malwarebytes will. That program has saved tons of my clients' data time after time.
Trust me, Anti-Malwarebytes is one heck of a program that works.

Those are what you'd call false positives. As such, I would be more concerned about Adaware than Malwarebytes.

No prob. I know good programs when I see them . . . and use them on all my clients ;)
I like Spybot S&D. I run that on my XP machines. Don't run anything on Vista, just an antivirus.
