View Full Version : GTX 260 Core 216 SSC Squeal :(
I have a GTX 295 that just recently started a different behavior: after playing a graphics-intensive game for a few minutes, it'll lock up completely, and squeal from the case somewhere. I've tried lots of drivers, no avail. Just started doing this a week or so ago.
What will lock up completely?
What will lock up completely?
I'll be playing along, screen will freeze, system will squeal, I have to shutdown via the power switch and restart.

Hmmm...
If you can, get another HD and install a new OS onto it and see if the same thing happens. About it being a PSU related thing - if it is, then I'm a bit puzzled why it did not happen straight away. :/
Hmmm. :o:p

Is there any data on whether the GTX 275s squeal much yet?

Does anyone know if this is relegated to certain brands of cards more than others? I know that something like only 30% of cards are supposed to be affected, but from my personal experience two 9600GTs have squeeled, my old 6600s did also, but my Radeon 9800 didn't. Do both Nvidia and ATI suffer from this problem or is more a NVIDIA issue?
Weird thing is, the 9600GTs used to squeel whenever there was a lot of white or gray on the screen and STEAM was open. For some reason the color white or gray, combined with a Steam window seemed to do it. It has stopped doing it now, though it's hard to hear anything because I added two large fans, so maybe it still is. It's very annoying that video card companies are using such cheap components, reminds me of the bad capacitors on mobo days.
