When did the 250's come out?

Since when have the GTS 250's comeout??? And how do they stack up with the rest? Are they a cheap alternative, or Better in every way?

They are basically rebadged G92 chips. They are NOT based on the 2xx tech AFAIK.

Actually the G200 tech is based off G92. Rather than mincing words. Its better to just state what the GTS250 doesnt have in compared to GTX 260 and above.

Double Precision ((Cuda/GGPU))
Better Idle Power usage
Improved geometry shader.

Other than the architectures are basically identical. But yes they are another G92 product.

Well technically all nVidia DX10 cards are the same only with minor improvements along the way. It better to say the GTS250 is a rebagged 9800GTX+.

I think alot of people misunderstand that there really wouldnt be a performance advantage to a GT200 type card in the G92 sector. Nvidia could produce a brand new PCB ((did that for GTS 250)), Go down to 55 NM ((G92 is 55 NM)). Lower its power requirements ((Did that for GTS 250)) and still wouldnt have any better performance. Since NVidia's shader/TMU units are tied as well as its ROP/Memory Controller)). Cutting down the design to follow the GT200's setup for ROP/Shader/TMU they'd end up with a part that'd perform virtually identical. Or in some cases worse. Keep in mind the GTX 260 has less texturing performance than a G92.

It been out for a while ,but it not nothing special,since it is basically a 9800GTX+ ,nvidia is getting there moneys worth out of the G92b chip.I don't think they should do that to people .because some people are not up to the full truth about the cards or do not have the
knowledge of PC hardware as other people that are hard core gamers.People that have a highly overclock 8800GTS 512mb and then they spend the money and get a GTS 250 because it's new and just came out so they think it is going to be a lot faster only to find out it has the same performance.But that what google is for.

I'm going to be picking up a GTS 250 1GB for my old motherboard (EVGA 680i). Mostly for my son to play a few games on and in time when the prices drop i might pick another one up for SLI.

It may be a rebadged and slightly improved 9800GTX+ but is that such a bad thing ?

No, not really. It should still be a solid card for a mid level pc. It just gets annoying when the same card keeps getting renamed. Other than a few changes the card can probably trace back to the 8800GT / 8800GTS 512MB.

As long as the price is right by all means go for it.
