Pretty close to extortion. But it looks like the kid just gave up. The father made it sound like his kid stood up to some bullies but his kid didn't. He gave up pretty quickly knowing full well that he can't afford a long civil case.

That's America where losers of the case don't pay. All they have to do is "sue long enough" for the other guy to give up. For a college student, I imagine that they don't have to wait too long.

Something drastic is going to need to happen before the RIAA will change. I'm talking a mass internet attack lasting months on end at the very least, and possibly something much more violent. And by god I hope it happens. I have no pity for those heartless bastards. This is capitalism at its worst folks.

That is sick, the guy made a freaking search engine. It's not his fault that people used it to find music. Hell use any search engine and you can find "illegal material". Why don't they take on google? Because Google would be able to defend theirselves, while a college kid cannot. Perhaps RIAA should look at their own ethics before they dare to challenge others.
