Gamestop is selling it early. I read that it was like Warcraft 3 in some ways, so I picked it up.

It is fricken sweet.

It lends a lot from the WC3 mod DoTA. The big difference is that each class is more advanced and versatile, while there is fewer classes (well a lot more currently, but can't compare release version with a multiple upgraded DoTA). The maps in Demigod look a bit dull though, it's flat "chess" like boards. If it can stand on it's own we will see. Official release is 14/4.

This game is so freaking awesome. No weak ass campaign. It's like just skirmishes/tournaments and online play. It just gets straight to the point.

So it's just out kill all enemies and win? No goals? Meh, that can get boring...

Your goal is to destroy the enemy's tower.

To be honest I find the concept of its simplistic objectives very appealing...it's more of an action based arena type game, but with some RPG-style elements. I never played DotA (mostly because of the annoying elitist 12 year olds who play it) but I did think it was a fun concept and the game has piqued my interest. With friends I could see this being a very fun multiplayer game. Only problem is, I believe Dawn of War 2 is very similar and I already have that.

Not only are they similar, DoW2 has a real campaign mode and Demigod doesn't. If I didn't already have DoW2 I would be much more inclined to give Demigod a try, but I do have it.

DoW2 is nothing like Demigod in gameplay
Its like comparing a fps to a rpg :p

They're both RTS games with RPG elements with no bases where you mostly control one hero character. Tell me the differences and I'll listen, but saying they're different genres entirely is pretty far off I would guess.

No single player campaign? I'll pass. I suck at multiplayer games, it's no fun when all you do is lose.

I'm a big fan of bot skirmishes. Because I suck.

I ended up buying it, I'll let you know how it is. :p

Still playing DoW 2 as well, but I can usually only play a few matches before I get tired of it. Even so it's a great game. :)

Edit: OK, installed and I just played a skirmish. Multiplayer seems to be offline at the moment, but so far the skirmish mode is very fun. The gameplay is fast paced and very entertaining as you learn tactics to kill and survive. Upgrades, leveling, equipment, etc. is all very intuitive and enjoyable. Gonna play a few more matches to get a better feel for it. :)

Like previously mentioned, this game feels so much like a refined version of the Defense of the Ancients mod for WC3. There are grunts you can kill for XP and gold, towers you have to destroy that shoot at you, and the whole levelling up and purchasing item system. Not a bad thing though, I enjoyed DotA. Is it par for the course for Stardock games to not have any sort of campaign mode? I remember Sins of a Solar Empire not having one either.

The developer is Gas Powered Games, I think it's more coincidental. Also the type of gameplay here doesn't lend itself well to a single-player campaign mode, I think the tournament mode suits it better. I played through a tournament and a couple online matches last night and had a really good time.

This game is pretty good. However, I still don't understand the lacking of a campaign mode.

Did a small graphics options overview and performance review in my blog for Demigod here: http://hardwarecomplex.wordpress.com/2009/04/16/demigod-performance-review/

Its been fun so far, although I haven't gone online yet (just been playing against bots). It's too bad there isn't a LAN multiplayer option though that doesn't require you to log online. I would really like to play this with my roommate and a few friends, but the cheapskates aren't willing to buy the game.

You're too much of a Steam fanboy to have one.

Sorry.

This game, while decent, is barely worth $20. Honestly, its worth every bit of $10-$15. Thats about it.
