install vista over vista?

if i'm gonna install vista over vista? will it backup my documents? cuz i can not find the way how to repair my vista? i have a cd but it's saying that current version is not compatible with the one i have on cd! :headexplode:

yes, it will move everything to windows.old folder in root of c, just don't format during install
