48 cores at 3.2 GHz with a chip of this size sounds very unrealistic. The transistor count is going to be huge, and i will be surprised if intel can reach that clock. Lets hope that intel fabs are better than TSMCs.

I donno, its a different type of chip from a GPU. CPUs have been hitting 3.2 Ghz for years, even giant Xeon chips. The clock rates previously expected were based on older processes, but I guess we will see.
Edit: Anyone seen a transistor/physical size number for a single Larrabee core? Might give us a ballpark on how big the chip is, and how high they might clock it.
They did show the wafer, and it was guesstimated that the chip was 600mm2, which is similar to the first GT200. But no info on how many cores chips on that platter had, and of course no info on clock speed either.

Even though Larrabee cores are based on a scaled down CPU, it has moved towards GPU design in several departments so it is a hybrid.

Larrabee sample's performance as fast as Geforce GTX 285 but it will not compete next generation high end GT300 card, Larrabee will be target at mainstream or performance segment.

I'll belive that when I see realword testing. But it would be good for competition if Larrabee can deliver.

I hope that Larrabee launches on 32nm, especially since the first consumer chips won't be out until Q1 or Q2 2010. Larrabee was originally going to launch in 2009 on 45nm, so I don't see why it can't be on 45nm now with a later launch.
Regardless of 45nm or 32nm, if the 32 core version competes with GTX285, perhaps a future 48 or 64 core version, on 32nm for sure, coupled with higher clockspeeds can compete with GT300.
I just hope Intel price's Larrabee reasonably, maybe then we will see Nvidia drop there prices for competition.
Everyones a winner.
nVIDIA and AMD's pricing is already rock bottom. To the point that they both, are just barely scraping by.These razer thin profit margins will play major havoc with both companies RnD budgets over the short to long haul. You better hope Intel doesnt pull any BS and try to sell Larabee AT A LOSS,just to gain market share.... Or we will all soon end up with only one option....Intel....
That we are now clearly headed into a full on deflationary depression is bad enough,as its likely one or both of these companies will not survive the coming financial storm.Never mind Intels onslaught !
Its quite likely Larrabee's drivers will leave a lot to be desired as well,at least for the first year or so.
Not that it matters,as by the time Larrabee hits retail, most here will be far more cencerned with finding a job, and, feedng themselves, and their families.I bet you AMD and nVIDIA,wont be around 18 to 24 months from now.Nor will most of the major banks on both sides of the ocean.

Yeah, the market has been mostly up for the last quarter...
Small rise before the very big fall (lee63). World is in pretend mode, US 2 trillion dollar deficit just this year speaks loudly.

I am pretty sure nvidia will be around ,AMD was bleeding money before this hit ,I hope they keep a float. There are so many cards out now that a $150 card will play any game out right now.I hope intel comes out with something different and good.
