So guys can ya help me i am about to invest in a new GFX should i go for another HD4870 or a GTX of some sort i have one HD4870 but i need more power to gaming .
Especially when game like Terminator modern warfare 2 adn other are coming i felt it in last remnant my gfx or cpu had some difficulties keeping it at a steady FPS.
so what do you recommend ?
shall i go for a HD4890 now and later sell the HD4870 for another 4890 ?
with gt300/hd5000 series...i don't think its worth buying a new card now.
i play on 1920/1080 games fine with aa.
and buying something for a future game that is not out yet is not worth it one bit considering the hardware u have right now.
also chances are mw2 won't need a high end pc just like mw. runs blazing fast as it is, and so does waw.

Hold off for now. Next gen is around the corner and there is nothing right now that requires a powerhouse that we have.

It looks like Crossfire is not working at all. Right click on ATI tray menu and enable the "show crossfire logo", launch a game and check if the logo appears on screen. Also use GPU-Z to check if crossfire is enabled

it says it is enabled in Gpu-Z but why is it that when i launch 3dm06 it starts with 25 then sometimes 45 or so way lower than it should be.
also is 70FPS max good when benching crysis?
i got less than 8000 in 3DM06 i get about 13000+ with one hd4870
so something isnīt right with this Crossfire setup
also the card connected to our tv shows hd4870 speeds not hd4890 in CCC why is that?

Did you reinstall the drivers or just pop in those cards?

i tried to take off the bridges and install the cards one by one and then connect the bridges but still no go
so i have now recently installed the drivers again
but still seems as it isnīt really working could it be a bios update ?
or what?

I haven't used ATI since my 9800Pro.... so until I get into this install tonight I'm about clueless with the ATI stuff. I plan on going xfire later this year with another 4770, so I hope it's not as much of a pain as you seem to be having.

Move the dvi video cable to the bottom card and try just keep moving it around and reboot soon our later it might work, maybe you do need a bios update. I had a asus rampage extreme 48 and two 4870's in crossfire, and I had too put the dvi cable on the bottom card. and reboot couple times etc. then they had a bios update for a fix on that and I put it back on the top one, but I still had crossfire it was just that the cable was on the bottom card before the bios update.:)

It's worth noting some games and applications will not use Crossfire in windowed mode. I know fellows in AoC with X2s that were getting single GPU performance until they switched to full screen. Also if a game doesn't have a Crossfire profile you may get less than single GPU performance. Below is an example of one game where the X2 saw a huge boost in a later driver just by having a proper profile. See FEAR2 and compare 9.2 to 9.1 for the X2.

Hope you get your problems hammered out.
You may want to take a stab at using the 9.3 drivers and see if they make a difference vs 9.4. That is if they will work with the HD 4890.
I had a couple of HD 4850 1Gb cards that wouldn't work in Crossfire with any driver later than 8.10. It turns out that was graphics card BIOS issue.
You may want to ask around below too-

so ho do i get profiles for games so i can check if that helps?
i did try the cards one and one but thing is as a single card both preformed way better than my oldler card in 3DM06 14445/14370 against say 13000 even maybe
is it that my Q9450 and the fact iīm using hdmi to a LCD 40" tv is too little to use crossfire fully also does it matter witch OS i have?
