I don't care. I used Build 7077 and it suffers from same **** as Windows Vista, and it's not any faster OS. Waste of time for me.

hell_of_doom227, windows 7 is faster than vista. For those of you questioning whether or not this is real, it most certainly is. I have installed both x86 and x64 versions on several machines. Runs great.

yea its definitely not Vista.
I don't care.
Then why post?
This one doesn't use Beta keys since this should be RC1, right?
Can I install over top of 7000 or would a fresh install be the only option?
7000 is getting kind of long in the tooth and has a few annoying quirks that I'm tired of.
PidginPortable takes forever to load and hangs on exit. UAC quirkiness with gadgetry. Takes forever to read a folder sometimes. Has hickups when accessing my new terabyte drive that replaced a 320 as storage (not OS). A few more issues I can't think of right now.

The RC branch SHOULD need a reformat. They arent supposed to allow upgrades on them. I clean installed mine, always do though.
Pidgin works fine, not using portable though. UAC has been improved though the betas, I was using 7077 last. Sounds like you are definitely ready for 7100 ;)
I think the only outstanding issue I have is Punkbuster which Even Balance refuses to address till RTM - aholes!

I assume it will be like before, where you can choose wether to upgrade or make a new install.
It's just that the Windows 7 team asked that people make a new install instead of upgrading.
I don't think they would ask that if the option was disabled anyway.
Anyway, I'll install it on a VM soon and know for sure.
What Microsoft wants people to test is upgrading from Vista -> Windows 7, as it will be a real scenario when the OS is released. Upgrading from different builds isn't what they want. But then again we can always ignore what they want and just upgrade anyway. It's not like most of us should have access to the different builds either.

upgrade technically will not work, but if you really want there is a way to do it.
Just do this
2.Burn the Windows 7 ISO image to a DVD, and then copy and whole image to a storage location that you wish to run the upgrade from (can be either any directory/folder on any partition/drive on the machine running the pre-release build, or a bootable USB/FireWire flash drive).
Alternatively, it’s possible to directly extract the content of the ISO to a desired folder using file extraction tool such as WinRAR.
3.Browse to the sources directory.
4.Open the file cversion.ini in a text editor such as Notepad.
5.Modify the MinClient build number to a value lower than the down-level build. For example, change 7100 to 7000.
BUT REMEMBER, DOING THIS CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE A LOT OF ISSUES

ugh still have to install drivers in Compat mode and as admin. Sound drivers didnt fully install, neither did chipset without doing that. Cant wait till drivers support Windows 7 now.

You can install and activate it with a beta key. That said, legal? With all the leaked betas its not like MS is suing people using Windows 7 that aren't part of the beta. This still expires so its not like its a full finished version either. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

Well the RC is gonna be a limited public release, so after the official date people can download 7100 and install from Microsoft themselves if they like.

Anyone had any luck getting a SoundBlaster Live to work under 7? It found drivers online but when it installs it Blue Screens. ::(: I only want it for the digital out. ::(:

Upgrade never works even with final version. I suggest clean install or don't install anything.

You try installing drivers using compatibility mode to Vista and "Run as Admin"?
