I just got the Core I-7 920 and a MB that supports both Crossfire and SLI. I purchased the first available MSI HD4850 several months ago. My question is. They do not make that exact card anymore, can I use another MSI 4850 to do Crossfire? I was told in the past that they half to be the EXACT same card, is this true?

Thank You

You can use any other 4850, and it used to be you could use any other card of that generation with CF. Not sure if that's (any card same gen) is still the case, but it used to limit performance to use faster/slower mixes, and it was only able to use the lowest amount of RAM.

Should be fine with any other 4850.

Not to bring this back from the dead... but

A good friend of mine is buying me an early wedding gift and getting me a second radeon 4770. I have never set up a mulitcard rig before so I just wanted to get a few questions answered.

Will any xfire bridge work, or will I need a specific one? Also someone told me you get better performance with 2 bridges instead of one? (doesn't make sense to me but w/e)

Also it it just as simple as popping the other one in and enabling it in the drivers?

And last but not least, do you overclock them together or individually.

Thanks guys

Any bridge will work, and just use one of them. Two can actually decrease performance.

Yes, you simply pop the 2nd card in and enable Crossfire in the Catalyst tool (you may need to swap your DVI/monitor cable between cards to get video the first time.)

When you overclock one card, it will overclock the other to the same speed.
