I have a less than 2 week old XFX GTX260 black edition 216 and it is going back to XFX for an RMA :( Card overheats and either crashes the computer or gives me a black screen and I have to reboot the computer. They are nice cards (it looks really nice) but I cannot say I am happy with it. I tried to play crysis and no go card cannot handle it :( This is my first try at nvidia since the 6800 gt I had several years ago. I am pretty sure it will be in the FS section as I get it back from the RMA :( Going back to the Saphire 3850 that I got for $39 shipped :) I am not a fanboy of any sort I just though that this card was the best value for the money at this time (the card is comparable to a stock 280 according to the reviews, but reviews did not mention the heating problems this card seem to have). Hopefully the replacement will be a lot better.

Did you manually raise the fan speed ? usually the problem is that fan is very low even if the card gets heated up it has been like this forever on geforce cards.

I am so happy with my xfx 192 260. In fact if you are interested in a trade for my hd 4870 I have in the fs section right now let me know when you get it back from RMA.

I hope you registered it as well.

I bought an XFX HD4890, which turned out to be defective. Currently 0 for 2 with XFX. Doesn't mean anything more than we're the lucky ones who get the 2% of defective GPUs.

Squeaky wheels get grease. I had a bad run with XFX too. In the end they gave my money bad and I bought another XFX (All I could get at the time) which is still going strong. I really is luck of the draw sometimes. ::(:

My point is to vent and to point that sometimes you get to caught up with purchasing the hardware that fail to research it. XFX black edition is known for overheating which I failed to google so it is my fault and XFX since there is somehting wrong with this cards. Yes, I increased the fan speed to 100% with evga tool but it only increased the time I could play. OCCT gpu test lasted like 2 minutes longer :) I guess I am just frustrated with hardware and not working properly since this week I returned my 26 LCD since it is also defective :( Seems like they do not do hardware like they use to :) The card looks nice though and yes the first thign I did was to register it :) Only reason I got it is because I got a killer deal at a local shop that wanted to get rid of it and I could not pass it out but I was just looking for a cable for the new monitor to test it (wich at the end also resulted in a defective LCD).

Just wondering if you tried down clocking it? I have been able to get really high stable clocks from mine, but I too have seen ppl's issues with the black edition. Guess they aren't binning these as well as they should to be pushing the clocks that high.

I feel I should not have to downclock it since it is supposed to work at the stock speed. I will never buy an OC, superclocked or whatever the manufacturer wants to call the card and just get the vanilla ones and oc it myself :) I really have bad luck with new stuff and good luck with refurbished stuff so I hope they send me a refurbished one and I might keep it :) My open box Biostar Tpower I45 and Tforce P35 are working great :)

I can't stand XFX, I've personally had nothing but problems with every product I've ever gotten from them :thumbdwn:

The 192SP GTX 260 I got from XFX way back when is great. It does 730|2600 1532 unlinked.

I had 7800GT SLi from XFX too that worked well.

I don't doubt people have problem with their cards, and it hasn't been my experience.

I got these EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 cards back when they were on sale. They were listed as GTX 260 192SP cards and priced appropriately yet they were shipping with 216 Cores. My Tri-SLi set up is being done with the mentioned cards, two 216s and one 192SP card. My slowest EVGA card holds me to 711|2300 in Tri-SLi and that's more than enough.

I was having random lock ups with my 285 in COD4, it was starting to really wind me up. Every time I CTRL/ALT/DELETE it would fire up again no problem. It turned out as stated above the cards fan was only running at 40%, turn it up to 70-80% card/game runs like a dream :D

I had my fan to 100% (which is not acceptable in terms of noice) and still it did not make it :( Hopefully they can fix it or send me a refurbished one :)

Well got the card back and this one was idling at 65-68 :thumbdwn: I opened the card and replaced the termal grease with MX-2 and now it is idling at 49-51 :)

Got my BFG GTX 260 Maxcore 216 today, made two profiles for the fan in EVGA Precision Tool, overclocked it to the highest clocks that BFG has on their highest overclocked 260 and ran CoD4 for a couple of hours with no problems. I'm getting about the same performance as I had with my 9800GTX SLI setup before this. Can't wait to add a second BFG GTX 260 Maxcore 216 for some SLI goodness once again!

Mine now seems to be working fine :) I have 2 profiles and the card is on to 666/1150 so it is ok with me :) One profile is 55% fan speed and the other I have is 79% fan speed when I game :) Waiting for crysis and warhamer to arrive to fully test it. I am playing quakelive but that is no stress at all :)

My buddy has a 260 216 that was giving him problems right after he installed it.

He had no idea what was going wrong, it would get really slow or crash the system.

It turns out he had a round IDE cable curled under the card that was pressing on the intake fan that points down (takes air in and blows out the back). The fan wasn't spinning at all. He figured it out by running GPU-Z and noticed the Fan speed was 0. He shut down, moved the wire and everything is fine now.

My EVGA cards idles at 41-43*C. GTX260 core 216 superclocked. I have had problems with XFX in the past. Will never use them again.

:afro:Is it the new 55nm or the old 65 one. I have the 65nm. and I idle a lot higher

for what its worth, with pretty good cooling (2 120mm fans blowing on card, one on top/side fan, one into the intake at the drive bay cage), with 65nm gtx 260 core 216 i idled between 48c and 52-53c depending on the temperature in the room (between 25 and 35c id say). with my 55nm 285 i idle at ~ 41-43c, and with the AC on I've seen it ~ 38c. That's with stock cooling at 52% fan speed. It also seems quieter than the gtx 260. gaming it never breaks 72-73c, (at max fan speed of ~80% after it breaks 74, at 72 it stays between 55 and 70, somewhere around there), even in torture test furmark @ 702/1592/2700. gtx 260 core 216 struggled to stay lower than 74-75 at ~100% fan speed in furmak 1.6.

If I had a nickel for every time someone said this about XFX, Donald Trump would be my b&*$&.

Plenty of people have had good experiences with XFX. They lag on customer support, but offer the best warranty, transferrable, etc. So don't bash what you don't know.

wait a second...

They lag on customer support but have the best warranty? How you gonna use that warranty when they lag in support? Better yet, my experience with them, they couldn't speak English and thought I had an EVGA.
