For reference here are the specs of my current rust bucket.

Intel C2D E6400
Geforce 8800 GTS 320
WD 1 Terabyte Caviar Black HDD
3 GB DDR 2 800
Vista Ultimate 32 Bit
Acer 23" 1080p LCD

Obviously an older system. Now I had been living with this system ok for the most part. Recently upgraded from a 160gb seagate drive and the performance increase was amazing. It's got me itching for another upgrade.

On my old 1280x1024 monitor this rig played even newer games "ok"... but ever since getting this 1080p screen obviously the performance is getting pretty rotten.

The woman is letting me spend about $750 after our wedding this year (like November time period) so I'm gonna hold off on getting much till then, but with the terrbile performance I get in Empire total war and Warhammer online at this res, I'm wondering if anyone thinks dropping $100 on a 4770 would be a decent upgrade in the meantime?

It seems to me like the 4770 would at least be a 30% increase in performance if not more. Just looking for some input. Thanks guys

Judging from reviews you would probably see a massive improvement in some games and a small but noticeable improvement in others.

I'd say its worth it.

The games you're playing are probably hitting your CPU rather hard too. It should overclock pretty well, so you should definitely try to squeeze a few hundred Mhz out of it to lessen any CPU bottlenecks.
