my current vid card is a geforce3 ti 200, but i'm interested in getting a Radeon, specifically the 9500 pro or 9600 pro, but don't know which one is better suited for me (ie performance wise. i'd like the 9800, but that's out of my price range). also, every pic i've seen of the radeon card leads me to believe that it is not a 1.5v agp vid card (ie, the 9600 appears to have 2 connectors, not 3). is that true? or is it compatible with the mobo that i have? i've also read that there are problems with voltage supply to the redeon. is it possible to change agp voltage on my mobo?

thanx :D

system: AthlonXP 2600+, 512 DDR Ram, Asus A7V8X-X Mobo, XPSP1.

Uhhh... it should work fine on the A7V8X. It IS a KT400 board, so if it didn't, that would just be screwy.

a radeon 9700 pro costs $429 Can whilst a radeon 9600 pro costs $269 Can. that's the primary reason why i'm considering the 9600. but thanx for the help :D

When choosing between a Radeon9600 Pro and Radeon9500 Pro I'd definately go for the latter, as this is much faster in most cases...

I would say faster instead of much faster. The 9600 is a much higher overclocker though.

9600p faster clocked plus comes with minor improvements and no power supply too...

just worried that the mobo wasn't a 1.5v one, or that the vid card wouldn't fit, or something. thanx for the help :)

Here's a pretty good Firingsquad review that compares both cards at stock speeds and overclocked:

9600Pro vs 95000pro (http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/radeon_9600_pro_overclocked/default.asp)

Personally, I think the 9500 is the safer choice since it's much faster at stock speeds.

I don't know what prices are like in Toronto, but in the Vancouver market, OEM 9700 non-pros can be found for as low as $315. Could be a good alternative if you're willing to spend the extra $50.
