What is a normal temp for a I-7 920?

I'm getting about 37 Celsius on idle. i was wondering if that is a normal temp.

Thanks!

It is dependent on the ambient temperature too and the relative humidity.

For me the min is around 30C with a max of 65C and a variation of 5-10C.

Is yours OC'd, if so what to?

Nope its still stock. The max temperature I got was from running Prime95 for 4+ hours on a Sunday afternoon when the room temperature was around 90F (32C).

I am giving myself a month to observe my system before I overclock the memory and the cpu on my system.

My threshold for overclocking is 75C under full load.

The only time i saw my surface temp goto 75c was when i overclocked to 4.2 and ran Prime. At that point my cores were touching 90c so i backed off.

At 3.6Ghz it idle's at 26c average and loads at 60c with prime after a few hours. Under normal use like gaming and video encoding its usually around 40c. Thats with the TRUE120 HSF installed.

I have seen some folk running there i7 920's at 4.0Ghz with similar temps as i get at 3.6Ghz.

About 40C idle at 4.0ghz here, 70's under full load.

according to intel 80c is safe .It can go up to 100c before it is consider unsafe.so if you run it in the mid 70's c you will be fine .It not like a core2 duo.

Don't look at my OC like that, bob. It makes everyone uncomfortable.

That's pretty much the same as mine. Are you using the Thermalright for cooling?

Under full load mine gets to the 70s, but nothing brings it up that far besides synthetic benchmarks. Usually 45-50C while gaming and 30-35C idle. Overclocked 160x20 with turbo mode, speedstep, and HT enabled.

Idd the voltage regulator can get pretty hot. In xtreme cases i have seen people using a fan mod to cool the vreg independantly. Around 75c is a good temp for the vreg when the CPU is under load though temps upto 80c are pretty common.

northbridge is 30C, VRM is 63C.

Just slapped that heatsink on my 920. Works great. Temps idle in the low 30s, doesn't go above 62C on full load at 3.9ghz.

Is there a way to speed up the the stock I7 fan?

you don't want to speed up the stock fan,if you want to overclock then buy a after market heatsink. you can get a pretty good one for $34, a XIGMATEK HDT-SD964 92mm for $24.99 and a i7 bracket for $9.99.

what is the difference between that and the dark knight?

Around 1*C cooler with the DK and TDK is substantially quieter

that reviews convinced me to get TDK for my new i7 build this weekend. (nana2) IMO it seems to have the best performance to low noise ratio.

It was a toss up between TDK and the standard non black chrome plated version but hey... it's black plated chrome... Totally metal. :super:

I am running at 4.2 right. Idle cores range from 35-40*C and full load from 71-76*C. I really need to lap my heatsink though. Truly feels like no one is making things like they used to. Due to how poor it was I expect a 8-10*C drop easy on load.
