Total ripoff, just like the 256MB 9800Pro. :)

Yeap both are over priced although you would expect that from ATi due to them using 256bit DDR-2 memory.

Don't know about you, but manufatures are getting VERY VERY lazy and seem to just stick to the refrence design, noticed this with most nVIDIA and ATi cards now

Not sure if it is lazy, or lack of design tools. These new cards are 8, 10 and 12 layers deep. How many paperweights would they have to make in order to keep noise and capacitance levels acceptable?
I suspect they just do not have the tools or do not want to invest in re-inventing the wheel, just to have a very slim chance they can actually improve the design of the PCB.

Oh come on! Do you realize how long it takes to make those stickers that go over the fan/heatsink? :D :D :D

It also would take alot of work to redesign a board, or come up with some knind of alternate solution,

and you ahve to consider

99.999999999% of the 'brands' are still made by one company, just repackaged. To get in the game all you need is a phone, some money and know the right people.

Bascily, i could start a GlowStick brand, just buy ordering so many units from lets say, MSI and tell them 'oh, put it in a new box, with this art im sending you" BOOM, a new 'brand' is born, then i just have to find a way to market them and pay off the bill to msi!

and oviously after years and years of labor, me and a crack team of engeneers will design a fan sticker : P

The Glowstick has better 2D quality then MSI! :D

the first cards are always refrence designs, they just slap a sticker on the back, since everyone wants to be first on the market, they dont take any time bothering with altering the refrence design

I was just making fun of people who find differences in various brands of cards that are actually the exact same reference board with different stickers. :)

I would love to have one but I'll wait for the market to get flooded with them and price wars to start.
450 is my max for one.
I might just wait for the NV40 this fall.
My NV30 will play all the newest games and games coming "Eg D3" just fine. :D

I think that place is full of it. I bet if you order one they will tell you its on back order after they charge your credit card.

Well, there are all kinds of issues. You have very tight AGP 8x timings, EMI, RF and various other layout issues.

Plus, you get BIOS and drivers for free and no need to go through the FCC, CE, VCCI and other certifications.

Why spend engineering resources on improving an already "good enough" design that does everything you want?

Oh, you have to do that since otherwise you can only compete on packaging (game bundle) and cost.
