I need to get some ram for my i7 rig and not sure whether to get
Corsair XMS3 Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 8-8-8-24 Core i7 Memory Kit
$209 CANADIAN.

or
OCZ Platinum OCZ3P1600LV6GK 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 CL 7-7-7-24 Triple Channel Memory Kit
$124 CANADIAN..

I plan on overclocking, my board is EVGA x58 (not classified).

Thanks

I personally am using the OCZ Platinums with no problems, but I haven't really overclocked the memory yet (I have the 965 so I just push up the multiplier for now). The OCZs actually have tighter timings than the Corsair Dominators (CL7 vs CL8). The price difference is that the Dominators have an XMP profile so you can just set it to its advertised speeds by setting it to that profile in the BIOS, while with the Platinums you need to manually set the voltage, speeds, and timings yourself, but if you are overclocking yourself and messing with the settings, the XMP profile is pretty irrelevant.

I think both should handle whatever overclocks you will be trying with your i7 pretty well, and considering the price difference, I'd go with the OCZ Platinums.

OCZ is faster at the same clocks and cheaper. It's a no brainer.

Although I can only go by ddr2 I think the same is true for ddr3 ,Dominator is overpriced bollocks and OCZ Platinum are great.

Go with OCZ ,it is great memory and it has lower timeings and does what it says.I have been useing the OCZ Platinum DDR3 1600 for my i7 920 and it works great at 7-7-7-24-1T at 1600mhz.

Yeah the OCZ seems to be faster/cheaper so....... go for it. Plus OCZ seems to be on a roll lately. The next ram I buy will be OCZ.

I have OCZ and Patriot in the same PC. They both run great.
