The Inquirer, as we all know, is a news site always to be taken with a _HUGE_ grain of salt due to its sensationalist nature, but, anyway, here is a news posting I did read yesterday:

GT300 delayed till 2010 (http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1052025/gt300-delayed-till-2010)

Seems the 40nm process is giving NVIDIA quite a headache :S

Well, see the good side, this means more time to amortize our investment in ours cards, in these times of recession. :o

I don't really believe it until a more reliable source reports it. so far only teh inqueerer has mentioned this.

I hope this isn't true. :(

Personally I hope it is true so I can get more use out of my three GTX 280's .Because I know when it comes out I will be wanting to buy one or two and this way there is no temptation.I just know the next card I buy I want it to be a DX 11 part.

My first thought is that nV better get something out the door before the end of the year because competition is stiff right now. Their margins on the GT200 series is very low vs AMD/ATI current offerings. Jen-hsun needs to rally his forces.

I think NVIDIA should not rally at all, because that will give them enough time to make for a really great product, think on ATI moving to the 55nm process just for getting DirectX 10.1 qualification, that sucked IMHO... (at least in my memories I think it was the main requisite for getting 10.1, 55nm, but please, correct me if I'm wrong)

NVIDIA is currently going to offer us their most state-of-the-art graphics processor with a bunch of new technologies and approaches to graphics simulation, but for that hardware to be truly amazing they need enough time to test it, and not repeat the same errors with the (infamous) first GeForce FX (I guess they had enough FIB sessions to repeat the same xD)

Even if I also want to know how Larrabee performs in its public appearance, I'm somewhat sure NVIDIA will still retain the performance crown for a _LONG_ time, so let's just let them take their time :P

it would be a missed opportunity if they don't have anything really new for the holiday season. between windows 7, DX11, and xmas a lot of people will be buying new hardware. and most will be wanting DX11 support.

Process size has absolutely nothing to do with DX spec requirements. It indirectly helps them get there (lower die size means less heat, higher performance, and lower cost per chip). All of those factors help, but in a direct sense, it is not a requirement.

Yes, you're right... but don't know then where I did read about 55nm process for DirectX 10.1, maybe a bad article after all... hmmm

with you here..I'd have to get 2 new cards for my upstairs killer rig and another for the downstairs HTPC downstairs in my house. I wouldn't be able to help myself, but now there is no temptation.

Yeah, but if you walk into the best buy (as a lot of holiday shoppers will) and ask the store HARDWARE EXPERT which card is better he will tell you that the latest nvidia cards came in a year+++ ago for the first time, whereas the ATI cards just came within the last couple months.

...our sources cited that recent rumors about slipping into 2010 were "blatant lies" and "written by a person that has no sense of reality". We will refrain from comments and we usually dislike it if a fellow journalist is being dissed, unless it is a person who invents things up. Charlie is usually known to be on target, but this goes against the information we know. But what is important is that according to our sources, GeForce GTX 300 series will be shipped in late 3Q 2009, targeting the Back-to-School period. We're not talking about a October-November frame, but rather August or September...

Be ready for the summer of the monster bandwidth :D

Can they really afford to delay to 2010? I thought ATI next gen series is coming out in july or something like that...
