Yep :)

I have made the plunge. Cost me a fair bit, but meh :-D

Specs:

6Gb Corsair Dominator DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600), , CAS 8, DHX, EPP

DFI DK X58-T3eH6, Intel X58 Express,

Intel Core i7 920, D0 (SLBEJ) 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 20x Multiplier, 130W, Retail

1GB EVGA GTX 285 SC 55nm, Mem 2538 MHz, GDDR3, GPU 675 MHz, 240 Cores

850W Corsair TX Series ATX, 5 Year Warranty

Total cost: 945.32

Can you see anything wrong with this selection? I have part financed this build by selling my 24" monitor. Okay it was brand new 2408wfp but I did not like it.

So I sold it, got a nice price and have purchased a 2407WFP which has 2 years warranty left. Is the quality alot worse?

Okay I SERIOUSLY need to get a job for the summer before Uni. :headexplode:

Hopefully this PC will allow me to break 20,000 3DMark06 points which my Q9550, GTX 295 setup let me get.

I will need to buy a new bracket set for my Ultra 120a.

What happened to your GTX 295

as I explained in another thread, it was a disaster. It ran hot, artifacted and was unsatisfactory in games.

So I sold it :D

So I sold it :DKind of surprised that the 295 didn't work out - the EVGA 295 on my i7-940 has been running great. Wish that availability of the 295 had been better - hopefully the single PCB 295 will remedy that situation.

Anyway, you'll definately notice a difference in the upgrade. 6GB of DDR3 memory is insane, but that's what I'm using too :afro:

It was certainly an impressive card to look at :D, but it just didnt work out. Also the fan noise was horrendous. Not just for the noise but the way it would Rev up.

I am going for 6Gb of DDR3 because it was only 20 more than the 3gb version. :o

Also I will hopefully be doing a degree course based heavily on multimedia developement and games development.

Also the fan noise was horrendous.Yeah, that can be a distraction. I'd like to see a reference cooler with dual fans - like MSI has. I've been testing a 260 with the fan pegged at 40% running FurMark and GPU temps are around 80 C.

Those temps dont strike me as being to bad at all. If I manually changed the temps on my old gtx 295 (around 35-40%) it would shoot up past 100c

If no one has any suggestions for change im going to order today.

Im split with this GTX 285. It looks a lovely card, but gut instinct is telling me to keep my 9600GT and stick it in SLi and wait for the new GT300. Im just conscious however of always waiting for the thing on the horizen.
