Yea, what I like to do when putting together a new pc is this.

Cpu + HSF (Obviously :p)/mobo/1 stick of ram, no video card. Add the PSU and make sure everything is plugged it. Then power the pc on and make sure it throws out a beep code for the GPU. If it does that then I'll add my GPU and see if it posts.

oh i see, interesting.

It's just one of those things where nothing should happen, but if something does you don't harm that nice $400 video card you just bought.

i have too much **** to learn.

It all comes in time. I built my first computer the year I graduated high school. I've learned a lot more about hardware since then, and I know now the importance of all of the components for a gaming rig.

Well I've built a ton of pcs for friends, so I'm always reading articles about stuff and looking for the latest hardware. The best thing is to find a solid setup and stick with it.

do you know any good wiring tutorials on the intertoobs.

When you're using high end GPU's the PSU becomes and important factor as well because of the power draw. When we built our first computers I was still using the PSU that came with the case. Now I know better because they won't be able to handle the load.

my friends usually buy pre built.
