do you know any good wiring tutorials on the intertoobs.

well wiring is kind of vague, like what type of wiring?

When you're using high end GPU's the PSU becomes and important factor as well because of the power draw. When we built our first computers I was still using the PSU that came with the case. Now I know better because they won't be able to handle the load.

that much i do know :)

my friends usually buy pre built.

Keep it that way. :p

It's nice that I can put them together for them, but you also become tech support every time something breaks.

like how to lay out so its neat. There some great clips on youtube of people running them behind the motherboard, behind the case....

The build in your Sig is far more solid than my first couple of builds IMO.

Honestly I think I did a decent job on my first computer, but it was more by accident than by knowing.

Not really. The only little trick that I do is plug all of the fans on the backside of the motherboard tray, and tape them all down. One of my friends has like 5 fans on a fan controller. It hides so many wires it's not funny.

as opposed to what?

The best thing to reduce clutter is to reduce the amount of stuff you have in the case. I like to have a lot of extras so I have a lot more wires than other people do. Using 1 HDD, 1 DVD both with sata, no floppy, 1 GPU, etc eliminates a boat load of cables.

Also a modular PSU helps so much in the tidyness department, as it has the most wires coming out of it. If you only plug in what you need, it saves 3 or 4 cables.

Before we just had them all plugged in behind the fan controller, on the front side of the case where you could see them. Between the PSU and that most of the area in the top of the case was wires. Moving them all behind the tray cleaned up most of the wires in that area.

Just having sata cables now instead of ribbons makes a big difference. I used to use 1 ribbon cable per drive to maximize performance on IDE, so I could have 3 or 4 IDE ribbon cables, and a floppy cable all in the pc. There would be all of the slack below the HDD cage, which would reduce airflow from the front fan if they were in the way.

oh i see.

is there a difference between PSU on top and PSU on bottom? are the two layouts called different names>? and obviously i am guessing different cases support different layouts.

You can get those little 3M plastic things which have loops to put a zip tie through. Stick a couple of those in areas where the wires have to be seen to hold them all straight. That would help as well.

by ribbons you mean those old rreally thick cables for the hard drive?

No it's the same layout, just a different case. They both use the ATX form factor for the board itself.

That's good. :)

Just let me know if you have any other questions like that. I know quite a bit about general hardware mainly because I've played around with all types of x86 computers.

this is what i would be shooting for, the bare minimum, maybe with 2 or 3 case fans.
I can plug them into the motherboard (most), correct.

Yes, the only catch sometimes is the fan cable length. You can find 3 pin extension cables to make them longer.

If you want to make it look even better you can always sleeve the wires. I sleeved a few cables like the front panel connectors on my current case. They just blend in now as they are all black.

I think I bought the 2 of the black kits.
