have you had good luck with thermaltake?

Yea. I have a TT 750W and 850W toughpower PSU.
The 750W PSU needed to be RMA'ed for a buzzing noise. The PSU itself I think worked fine, but they needed to rework something so it didn't make a noise. Think I paid shipping to them, and they shipped a new unit back for free. Service was good and the new unit has been working perfectly since.

the 750W PSU has powered 2 8800GTs and a 8800gts 512 in a folding rig before. Was running that combo 24/7 for a few months without issues.

do you think around 700 is enough for one 285 or 295, motherboard, several fans, one dvd drive, one hard drive

Yup. Whats in my sig draws about 550W ish from the wall. The 285 power requirement are probably about the same as the 8800GTX since is uses 2 x 6 pin PCI-E connectors.
The 295W is still probably less than both 8800GTX cards.

You can figure about an 80% power efficiency, so I'd say it's around 440W from the PSU.
