Someone recommend AIMP2 here. I tried it and I've been pretty happy with it.

Other people seem to like foobar, but IMO it doesn't have a clean layout and just didn't feel as nice as Aimp or winamp does.

I use Winamp Free. I do a custom install to trim the fat. With the 3rd party iPod plugin it's quite nice. Especially with the MAD mp3 decoder set to 24bit, work well with my X-Fi. Sounds better compared to WMP and light years better than iTunes.

Which version of the mad decoder are you using - 0.15.1b or V2?

I bought Winamp like 4-5 years ago and it's still good by updating. What version do you have?

::o:

It's actually the Shibatch mp3123 decoder. I ditched MAD as it was having problems with my tags. ::(:

I show know this as I just reinstalled Winamp on my Windows 7 PC...

Can you still play music videos in it? That was the one really sweet thing about it, the AOL bought them and so Winamps own content went down the tubes. AOL videos were good for a little while, then the search feature was removed and most of the videos I want to watch stopped working. So I finally gave up on it and starting looking elsewhere.

Winamp does vids no problems. Will do flv and the like with the essentials pack. The Nullsoft devs are there still, it's just they have money to continue improving it. Might have to untick the odd 'adware' option on install, but you have to with a lot of great free apps.

Yea, it's under 'Winamp Music' in the 'Media Library' tab. They just threw all the videos that AOL had in there. It still acts as a video media player. Just click the 'Video' tab beside the 'Media Library' to see the video playing.

I think my favorite feature are the AOL radio channels. They have a pretty good selection that rivals Sirius or XM radio. Shoutcast also gives you unlimited options. It's totally been worth the $20 I paid for it years ago.

It also goes to a minimal mode with the click of the T button.

I use The KMPlayer.

KM is awesome for videos. I just switched to it after using VLC for the longest time. VLC's picture quality just isn't as good as KM for me. Maybe I have something configured wrong? Even WMP looks better.

Another vote for AIMP2.
I had been using Winamp for years before I switched. Very nice, clean interface and speedy as heck.

My only gripe with it is the lack of MP3 player (Creative Zen) support, but other than that, it's pretty awesome.

If you do a search you'll see this matter has been covered before :)

EDIT: Almost forgot. Aimp2 has a pretty lousy radio station support. Winamp's was MUCH better.

WMP is one of the best players in terms of quality as it used to rely on your choice of codecs, even with 7 the built in ones are pretty good.

I know, the only thing I have it doesn't play so far is MKV. I don't touch MOV or RM anymore.
