No he doesn't have a nearly perfect midrange game :p I'd still reiterate Bird and Jordan was better in the midrange game.
Phil Jackson disagrees. So do I. Get off Lebron's dick.
As I said in my other post, I was exaggerating a bit.
What you posted really highlights why Kobe makes bad decisions when he sometimes gets the urge to shoot the night out. You don't shoot the ball when you're double or triple teamed, you pass it around. Or if you do want to shoot it, make sure its at least makeable. I can't count how many times throughout his career that Kobe has chucked 25 foot three pointers with no sense at all. Or as you said, he'd take difficult shots under duress and more often than not, he misses it completely. You don't see Wade and Lebron having that bad shooting percentages. Even this year Wade had a 49% shooting percentage, a percentage Kobe hasn't even sniffed at. Wade's team this year is comparable with Kobe's bad team in the past. Lebron, who has always had a mediocre to average teams in the past, has a career 47%, with his averaged dragged down by a mediocre FGA in his rookie year which was a paltry 41.
I have a lot of respect for Wade's game, even though he still has limitations. He has a good step back and he has the speed to get past most people. And he doesn't take a lot of 3 pointers which allow him to maintain a good percentage.
Lebron gets more bailout calls than anyone else which is why regardless of the number of awful shots he takes, his percentage will remain high because the refs are helping him out.
Kobe has excellent mechanics and angles. If you see the way he operates, he doesn't need a number of screens to get free. He doesn't need to get the ball in the perfect place or bulldoze over people. He has developed his game to where Jordan had it, in using the angles and getting people off balance and so forth. This allows him to raise up over people, drive by them or use his fade-away, which is deadly, when he needs to.
That is probably why Zelda was saying Kobe has a near perfect mid-range game, it's because fundamentally, he has a superior mid-range game to anyone else in the league right now and probably since Michael.
MJ, Kobe's idol, had a career 50% in FGA, despite historically was almost always double teamed. He was way more efficient, had a better midrange and driving abilities, and a much mature passer, post up player. That's why MJ-Kobe comparisons really gets my goat lol.
And oh, Kobe did chuck the ball during the 2004 finals. He had a 38% fga, which was funny because shaq had a more efficient post game during the series. He was determined to be the man during that finals, well, what do you expect with a guy who said "I don't want to be a sidekick anymore" lol. I took a quick look on his 2004 playoff average wow man.. 24.5 ppg on a 41%
During the 2004 Finals, Shaq had trouble with Big Ben. He was also in foul trouble in a couple of the games and had some key turnovers that killed momentum. I LOVE Shaq but after Malone got hurt, it really was on Kobe to be the man. No one else was creating opportunities and his team-mates not helping him out and him being beaten up by the Pistons led to a lower percentage.
Going back to the same years playoffs, look at his numbers v/s San Antonio, the team with a much better and more consistent season than any other besides Detroit in the 2nd half of the year.
Btw, I do agree with you that Jordan had a very complete game. No question about it. However, Jordan also had some decent players with him, such as Pippen and Kerr and others who stretched the floor. As great as he was, he also had some great help. Kobe has not had a consistent knock-down 3 point shooter on his team in his career. Kerr was an all-time great shooter. Other than Pau right now, there is no other consistently superior player on the Lakers team. I LOVE Odom's game, but some nights, he just doesn't show up.
No :P his team is in the finals because he's had a better team that's all. This year individually, Lebron has passed him. Wade probably breathing down his neck.
Lol wow, you didn't have to resort to dumb net lingos.
Dunno, I thought the Cavs had the best record in the league?
:D

I agree, Kobe has excellent footwork. Him and Melo are fun to watch when they operate in and out of the paint. Though Kobe really has stretches that he'll be throwing bricks that'll leave you scratching your head in confusion.

Yep, he does. He was asked to justify it during the playoffs and he gave an interesting example.
He said he usually takes higher risk shots with a decent sized lead or to steal momentum if the other team is on a run because if he hits, it's a huge energy builder and momentum is key. If he misses, they still have a lead or a deficit to fight back from.
You'll notice Derek Fisher also take 3's with a little cushion to the same effect. Yes, they don't always connect but when they do, it's awesome.
