New York state Assemblyman Felix Ortiz has proposed a 1 percent tax increase on video games, junk food, and TV commercials, citing that these things are responsible for the growing obesity problem in New York. Ortiz said that the final proposal may include additional items as well. The money raised from the tax would be used to fund obesity prevention programs and establish additional health programs for schools. However, the proposal's chances of passing appear to be slim since Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno said he would not support the tax.

I find that video games require mental effort as well as minor physical effort. Mental excersize and stress are effective in weight loss as well as physical excersize and stress. I think the idea of taxing it is a way to slip on another tax that most voters/ politically powerful people won't fight since gamers don't tend to fit these categories. Btw, just saw some amazing people playing the latest Dance Dance Revolution last night in the arcade... Wow! That prop cycle game was cool too! Junk food? I consider milk, campbell's soup, and anything with msg, artificial sweetners, or hydrogenated oil to be junkfood... who's to decide for us what's junk and what isn't? The Government tends to know little about nutrition.

*note; I find it ironic that certain words are censored on many forums when they mean the same thing as accepted words. Much of this is derived from when speaking french was outlawed which is uhm.. RACISM? Since their synonyms seem acceptable.... well at least we all know what another word for donkey is ;)
