Has to do with this article (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=519&e=18&u=/ap/20030613/ap_on_re_us/california_gas_guzzlers_2)

I say that this is a good idea, however if I were her would have used better wording perhaps.

Burton was joined Thursday in San Francisco by former "Seinfeld" actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who said SUV's aren't necessary for many of the daily tasks performed by the state.

"It doesn't take a Hummer to take a box of paychecks across the Bay Bridge," said the actress, who works with the Natural Resources Defense Council. "We're trying to send the message that fuel-efficent cars are cool and sexy."
Cool AND sexy you say? Well, what are we waiting for?

Anyway, what do you think? Good idea? Yeah or nay?

I think they need to fix their budget before worrying about petty items like this. Can you say....recall!?

I don't really like SUVs that much, kinda overrated. I don't know how I feel about this, sure you may not need these types of vehicles for alot of things, but I think this is just one way for the greenpeace types to get their foot into the door so they can force everyone to give up their SUVs someday:nono:

why the hell not?

I can barely drive in my town--it's a mountain town, and about 75% of the cars are SUVs (although maybe .3% of the people NEED SUVs--it's not THAT big of a mountain except in about 2 places, and everyone is an old fart but me). The roads are pretty narrow, and it's a driving nightmare.

Plus, they are ultra expensive. They can buy some Honda Civics and shut the hell up...

I actually dont mind them not buying suv's but not for environmental reason. I think as Baron said. They need to buy cheap cars that will last. bastards ride around like fat cats while the budget keeps ballooning.

Yeah...

$30,000+ SUV versus <$10,000 Chevy. If you were on a budget, which would make more sense?

12 miles per gallon (SUV) versus 30 to 35 miles per gallon (Chevy). You pay the "el-cheapo" $1.65 per gallon. Which would you buy?

Each gallon of gas contains a certain amount of pollutants. How much is actually emitted into the air right away depends on how good the engine is with its emissions and how much gas is used.

It would take a chevy 3 gallons of gas to travel 100 miles while an SUV would need at least 8 gallons. Which would you think would pollute the air more? It may be true that on a per gallon basis, SUVs might do better than some small cars when it comes to air emissions. But the fact of the matter is that since SUVs consume more than twice the amount of gas, then any alleged superiority that SUV have in emissions on a per gallon basis is lost since the total amount of pollutants emitted by an SUV is greater. (It is called Math folks. Lobbyists like SUV owners of America take advantage of American's unwillingness to apply simple 6th grade math.)
