Hello, I am very new to this forum and I'm hoping you guys can share your vast experience with me. ;)

Anyways, I have a EVGA 01G-P3-1280-AR GeForce GTX 280 and its seriously overheating when gaming and I need to find a cooler for it so I can play Fallout 3 for more than 10 min at time...

I've been waiting for the Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME GTX 280 VGA Cooler (http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/arctic-cooling-accelero-xtreme-gtx-280-vga-cooler.html) for months now and they are finally available for pre-order.

I'm in a rush so I was wanting to know if I should wait for the AC GTX 280 (arrives June 2nd) or get something like the Thermalright GTX 280 instead which is readily available.

Thanks!

Until then, you can use EVGA Precision Tool to adjust the fans. Most likely they are spinning at 35% most of the time and with this tool you can create Profiles such as 60% and 100%. I turn my fans up to 100% before gaming and then back down to 60% when I'm done and even sometimes down to 35% when just browsing the web or something similar. You may end up not even having to buy a 3rd party cooler. Remember, keep it dust free in the future, too! ;)

Another good thing about third party cooling is you can keep it dust free more easily, Stock coolers are a bitch to clean the dust bunnies out of unless you have canned air.

What else would you clean it with? :eek2:

I use a vacuum cleaner attachment ,An electric pump on blow or my lungs depending.

I wipe my fan blades with alcohol/paper towel

It's a decent cooler no doubt, but the heatsink that covers the voltage regs doesnt stick very well even after giving them good clean, just falls off after a while, no joke and the back plate is useless as it bends slightly and as a result does not cover all of the memory, binned it and used ramsinks on mine.

GPU temps are great though, load of around 60C on my GTX280, 35C idle. :)

Also remember the new Artic Cooler Accelero Xtreme GTX 280 cooler will take up 3 slots ,which is no concern if you have the room and just running one GTX 280.

I just wanted to follow up and say how awesome the Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME GTX280 is! I've had it installed for a few days and its very quiet and dropped my temps down a lot!

Here are my temps while gaming:

55% fan speed (Dead silent).
Core 1: 45c core2: 43c
