I need suggestions....
i want to buy a new graphic card next month.
Now i'm gettin confuse between Radeon 9800 Pro and FX 5900 Ultra.
Some said that ATI's IQ is much better than Nvidia. is that true?
And ATI's 2X FSAA are comparable to Geforce's 4x FSAA.
Some also said that ATI got better color in general.
Please answer objectively.
(ATI and NVidia are Welcome)

FSAA quality with a new ATI card is much better than on an nvidia card. nvidia's AF is better at certain angles, some people still perfer ATI's AF because it has a higher degree.

Yes.

I will also have to say that is true, having owned both an ATI and a nvidia card. Some people favor nvidia card's color with Digital Vibrance enabled though. I find that it is not really needed. There are some games that like Digital Vibrance because by default they have low gamma and brightness, such as Counter-Strike. Without Digital Vibrance, the color on an ATI card is superior to that found on an nvidia card.

judging by the reviews, you'll be fine with the 128 meg card....256 is overkill for now, but u never know when new games will come out and use the extra vram....but it'll probably be a while. im still happy with my 128 meg ti4200.....runs all games i want to very well.

To be real honest with ya I think the 9800 is a bit of overkill right now, you might want to consider a 9700 Pro and save yourself some serious cash to get your next new viddy card with.
I really don't think there's a whole lot of advantages right now to getting a 9800 over a 9700 except for bragging rights. ;)

And 3DMark of course.........
The higher clocks help.

Believe it or not I actually meant to include 3dm2k3 in me recomendation for the 9700 Pro, it really runs the benchmark pretty.

What's wrong with GTA:VC?!? It's running liquid for me at 4xAA 16xAF on Bubbles?

I don't think there's a machine out there that doesn't have weird problems with Vice City. Heh.

Get a 9700pro if anything. Its cheaper and at 1024x768 with 4x FSAA+8xAF you are going to be pushing 70 FPS in nearly every game out there.
Otherwise Wait till August before you upgrade. You wont regret it.

Or any cats for months. There is an occasional wierd issue. But its been pretty rare. Its not like Ati just got it together. Most 9700pro users have been playing games with only the occasional issue since last year. (outside the Stuttering problem on AGP 8x hardware)
GTA and Enter the Matrix are Console ports. Based on Nvidia Hardware. Besides which i have not seen any wierd issues with enter the matrix.
Glowstick. Why dont you post screenshots of all these game issues you are having. Id like to see what you are talking about.

You can strike Vice City and Enter The Matrix off that list, they both work fine for me. I don't own any of the others.

I have decided to take this further...
Just becuase ONE user reports a *problem* does not validate that problem. Hell I have read lots of posts where the topic says *help XXX issue*.. and 20 other people chime in that they have no problems at all with the game. It turns out the person did something screwy on their system. There is a Difference between real Driver problems and some one with unusual issues on their system. As i seem to have to constantly point out. There is only one major Ati web site and everyone who owns a radeon basically hangs out there. With Nvidia cards and other cards you have 10 posters here and 20 posters there sprinkled all over the place.
Just as examples...
Serious Sam is Fine and has been since day one. There are posts about issue with GTA on all hardware. Its a Console port. Enter the matrix is fine. I myself play Asherons Call 2 and i dont see any issues. I even play with 4x fSAA+8xAF
Is it Possible that the guy buys a card and has problems with it?? yes. But dont pass off individual wierd issues some people have with all encompassing Driver problems. (an example of a real driver issue was the HL esc bug)

Funny, all your other posts seem to reflect EXACTLY the opposate.
Such as your post about the 1 reviewer with beta drivers with a beta game and a engeneering sample board that had a problem, yes, exactly the opposate.
THe problem is, with Vice City i dont own it (i have GTA3) but i only listed that because on rage3d and this board people are saying it dosent work, not just one, and it this small sample of people mean there are tons more.
Asherons Call 2, i also do not play(want to try it though, cant commit, incase i dont like it) also i posted that becuase many people are complaining that it dosent work right with ATi cards.
Serious Sam is also an issue that was pointed out to me by firingsquad. Oddly enough when you play SS it seems there is another clippling plane that is added, objects just magicly dissapear in the distance incorrectly.

DVS shows the usual ignorance of the average ATi user.
Though, StarCraft is still one of the top 50 selling games of 2002, and just because all radeon cards have issues with them, they pretend the game dose not exsist. When i buy a 399$ video card, i expect it to run all of my games.
Again, rallysport challange had twice the fps on my geforce3 than on my radoen, i am sure ati will try to find a work around for every game that comes out!
Amzalingy though Enter The Matrix's game play sucked, the game ran fine on my Geforce3, but ran at 10fps on a 9800pro!
As a ATi user, the only game that EXISTS is 3dmark03, therefore the DRIVERS ARE PERFECT, IT WORKS WITH EVERY GAME EVER MADE, WITCH THERE IS ONLY ONE, 3DMARK03. ONE DAY I HOPE THERE WILL BE ANOTHER GAME THAT EXSISTS, MAYBE 3DMARK04!
Who needs 'games' when you have 3dmark03? exactly!
Wow GS I think you should cut your losses and sell that 9800p real cheap...... get it out of your box NOW!!!
I'll give ya $150 for it.........:D
