IIRC, it's the equivalent of Via or nForce drivers for Intel mobos.

You're partially right. IAA is just an IDE driver, nothing more. You can try it out, if you find that it doesn't work for you, use the included uninstaller and it will revert back to your previous driver.

Well, improve IDE performance, so really load times should be improved and such.

It's worth noting that YMMV with this one.

I've loaded it many times with no problems coming up. But over at abxzone I've found several people running into problems with it. More important to load is the Intel INF package. Also, if you're going to use IAA you need to load it in a certain order. Right after you load the INF package and before any drivers get loaded to the system. It's picky about that, supposedly...

I was looking for decent IDE drivers, as the intial drivers on my work dell machine has my drives set to PIO mode!!!!! :rolleyes:

I couldn't even change it.

Then installed IAA, and noticed I'm only on UDMA33, until I changed the accoustic level to MAX PERFORMANCE.

What a palava.. never had this much trouble getting my drives working fast on my AMD system.. :)

Those folks out there using 875 canterwood system boards don't need to load the IAA unless they intend to use SATA RAID. If you are only using simple parallel IDE devices, SCSI drives, or a non RAID SATA config you do not need this. Intel's site states that the native XP drivers that come with SP1 work fine.
