Hi Everyone,

I turn to you in the hope that a normal, decent, honest, hardworking human being out there can help me with my problem (enough buttering up? Then I'll proceed...)

I have a Samsung P35 laptop running an Ati Radeon Mobility 9700 graphics card, except it's not running it anymore because something happened recently to cause it to stop working.

I had previously been using the Ati Control Centre to switch displays (projector, external monitor etc.) when one day I just couldn't get it to display on anything but the laptop screen.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the card drivers with no effect, keep getting messages from Ati downloads that they cannot be installed. I don't know enough about this to tackle it efficiently, and every website I've been on has recommended I run a registry scan - I have done and fixed the errors found but still nothing.

Now when I start my laptop up I keep getting a message that "atimtag.sys" cannot be found and needs to be re-installed. I've tried looking for a download of this from the internet but cannot find one that doesn't want to charge me for it. I don't have any of the original installation disks from when the laptop was new as this has been handed down to me.

I just pray someone out there can point me in the right direction.

Have you tried doing a windows restore or fix(by inserting the original XP CD)? Atimtag.sys is the driver and without it windows can't control the 9700.
There's also a chance that the gpu itself has died.

If the two things I mentioned earlier don't work for some reason, try doing a full virus scan and then formating the whole thing(you could install windows 7 ;) ).

You could use the above tool to make pretty much any ATI driver functional on your laptop.

Have you considered going to Samsung's site for drivers?

i have had that card, and have had success with it, but it is also very dated now. And the one laptop i have with this card barely works.
