View Full Version : 8 F1 teams including Ferrari and McLaren quit to create new championship.

Formula 1 has been thrown into chaos after eight of its major teams said they are now planning to set up a rival championship for the 2010 season.
The threat by members of the F1 Teams Association (Fota) escalates their row with world motorsport boss Max Mosley over his budget cap proposals.
"The teams have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 F1 Championship," said the teams.
"We've no alternative than to commence preparation for a new championship."
Mosley was insistent on introducing a voluntary £40m budget cap for teams to curtail a "financial arms race" in F1.
But Fota refused to agree to his conditions, prompting championship leader Brawn GP, Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, Toyota, BMW Sauber, Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso to take their drastic action.

Thought this might happen. This is gonna shake things up.... alot
Bernie and Moseley can stick it up their arse for being so obstinate. Why they are so adamant to introduce a cap so suddenly is beyond me. Make it over a period of seasons....and it would be easier for teams like Ferrari / Mclaren etc to take.
The rival series could attract more sponsorship and generate more viewership because it does exactly have the big names there. Which one to watch...FOTA series with all the a-list and no more imposed restrictions (like the good F1 old days..pinnacle of motorsport tech.) or F1 way things are looking...with erm Force India, Williams, erm and 3 other teams? Good luck Ernie and Mosely....
..>Seriously Moseley should be removed....and someone with more vision be allowed to be chairman who listens to all and has a vision for F1 future.

Bernie and Mad Max are ruining F1. how can they justify leaving traditional venues in Europe (ie, France) to stage races in the Third World? it's about lining Bernie's pockets; it has nothing to do with what the fans want. since F1 dropped Montreal after demanding a ridiculous amount of guaranteed money from the gov't i've found myself really losing interest in the sport. why should i invest time in the sport when the people who run it obviously don't care about the fans.
and really, no event in the US? there was nothing wrong with Indy (i was there, twice) except Bernie wanted more money and Tony George walked away. good for him, bad for the sport.
i'll watch the FOTA series next year, F1 be damned. this is different then the Indy/Champ car split in open wheel racing in North America. Indy had the clout, namely the Indy 500, while the break-away series i think had better cars and some name drivers (at the start). what does F1 have without Ferrari, McLaren, BMW, Renault and the rest of the major teams and drivers? they've pissed off their fan base, they've turned their back on traditional venues .... so let them race camels or donkeys while the rest of us watch the best cars and drivers.

GOOD!
I hope they make the rules, so that you can use any engine, as long as it meets displacement rules. I'd love to see an I4, I6, V6, V8, V10, V12, or V16
