View Full Version : Just made the change to ATI
Just bought a 9700 pro (upgrading from a nvidia 4600). THis is the first ATI card I have ever owned. Just seems like Nvidia has hit rock bottom. Any advice from anyone on drivers or setup. Thanks.
One problem you are going to run into is purging the old NVidia drivers from the system.
Make sure you have enough power supply. That card is a hungry fellow.
Load the Cat drivers from the ATI website, instead of using the ones from the CD, as the ones on the CD will more than likely be old. Don't forget to get the control panel. ATI ships it separate from the drivers.
Pay attention on the cleanup/removal of the old drivers and you should be fine.

Basically everything Skuzzy said: remove the old drivers, get the latest cats off ati.com and begin installation.

I am kind of nervously excited :)
I always wait with anticipation to hear what people think who have been long time Nvidia users. I am really looking forward to hearing what your first impressions are, IQ Speed etc.
I upgraded from a Gf4 Ti 4200 to a 9700pro last year. Man what a difference. I just could not get enough of Playing BattleField 1942 at 1024x768 with 4xFSAA and 16xAF.
Use this program to remove ALL NVIDIA drivers from windows http://content.guru3d.com/index.php?page=detonatorrip&menu=0

As much as I hate to say it, Nvidia is really turning out crap lately. Maybe one day they will improve. Only time will tell. For now it looks like ATI is the way to go.
make sure you check out the nude dawn thread to be able to see cyber pr0n and explore some of your cards abilities...

You MUST get the Animusic demo off of ATi's website....TOO FRICKING UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I had no clue about the raw power of this card 'til I saw that, and I was humbled by it. :)

Ya, I switched to my 9700pro and I love it. I don't like the washed out colors though but I really don't mind since the IQ is sooo frikin' nice. :p I will be getting another ATI card for HL2 and TFC2. AHHHH!
I just wish they would make a better HDTV component converter. :( Right now My toshiba 42" blows my puter away in HDTV.

That demo did rock. I had to keep reminding myself that this was being done in real time the first time I saw it. The fact that I was able to run it an 1920x1440 on my 9800 and have it still run well really took the cake. :D

I had no idea it was in real-time until I moved the mouse and found out I could "go off the rail" in it and I FREAKED as the realization set in of just how much was going on and how smoothly and in real-time like that!!!
Sorry, it still sort of boggles me. I love how the 9700 Pro don't just live up to it's hype, it totally takes it to the next level beyond that! :D

Easy money. Removed the Nvidia drivers slapped the 9700 in and installed the new drivers. No problems. Woohoo. Now I know what it means to crank it up and play BF1942 the proper way. So much better. The only prob I am having is the font in the game looks strange and I cant read it too well. Any clues?
8248 3dmark 2001 score???????? What the hell am I doing wrong

Need the rest of your system specs before we can start answering that question.

Make sure you click "appl. preference" on the AA and Af tabs of your ATI control panel, Otherwise your running 3dM01 w/ loads of AA and AF:D
Post some compare links:)
I am running a A7N8X with a 2400xp. 1 gig of corsair 2700 not overclocked. At what resolution should it run. I always used default before. It is not running at 1024x768

Yeah I ordered a evga 5900 Ultra, guess what those 5900 ultra.s are locking up and stuttering etc. I'm sending it back to gameve when it gets here, everybody on evga.com is having problems even with the replacements. I ordered a gigacube 9800 Pro 256 meg. I never ever had a ati video card so am kinda excited, Plus I have read every where how it looks better than Nvidia so if you can't beatem Join them right?:)
