Friend needs to make a decision.

It boils down to this. Would appreciate some answers.

Many thanks.

The Asus Rampage Extreme II works out at 205

The DFI Lan Party DK X58-T3eH6 works out at 160

Both have full warranty.

Which one? He can afford both, but if its not worth the extra 45....

Thanks for this, I value such comments very highly. Gut instinct is important.

What features does the Asus have over the DFI, and do they justify 45? Again the PC is going to be a long term one (ie it has to last probably a year maybe even an extra half). Will both boards take the new GT 300 cards in SLI?

DK X58 while is nice, if you are comparing R2E you probably want the DFI UT X58-T3EH8 and not DFI DK X58.

Thanks for the time taken in compiling that list.

Unfortunately for my friend, those two motherboards are the only one on other. he can pay another fair bit to get the DFI, but money is getting tight then.

cheers

Whats the price difference between the two DFI boards?

Dreamweavernoob

Well my friend can get the DFI Lan Party DK X58-T3eH6 from someone for 160 (its only one day old not registered).

To buy the DFI UT X58-T3EH8 costs 235 pounds.

He is only really interested in the rampage because it usually costs 260 and hence thinks he is getting a bargain....

Here is a in depth review of the DFI board.....I remember it taking a couple of months to figure out all the settings on my last DFI....they are really tricky boards.

I think the Asus would be a set it and forget type board...Where as the DFI you need to dick with it forever, this only if your OCing BTW.

Heres the review http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/reviews/15827-dfi-dk-x58-t3eh6-living-review.html

Its looking more attractive.

:oWell it seems to be a solid board http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1662/asus_rampage_ii_extreme_x58_motherboard/index.html so why not go for it.

I've just had bad experiences with Asus...that's all.

i mean i can hardly believe im saying this but dfi boards are just unnecessarily complex. ive owned their nf4 ultra, and it was a great product, but the learning curve wasn't insignificant then, and has become best-in-class now (in magnitude)

thats an incredible price no? i paid 300 for my ud5, and i believe the r.page 2 is more highly regarded.
