I was putting a system together for my daughter and wanted a pretty fast system ,but did'nt want to spend a lot of money. I chose the E7400 CPU because I found it for $109,and it was $60 cheaper then the E8400 with hardly no performace loss because of the 3mb of less cache. The heast sink fan that comes with it just sucks ,it does't even have a copper core like most of them have, plus it is only .75 three fouths of a inch tall.So I bought a cheap masscool 8WA741 92mm for $20.For a $20 cooler this one is hard to beat.I put it in a Asus P5N-E SLI (nforce 650i)that I had laying in my computer parts pile and it worked great, after a Bios update. At default voltage 1.35v it would overclock to 3.9gigs and I ran prime 95 at the hardest settings and furMark at the same time just to make sure it was stable. At idle it runs at 26c ,28c and with a load the highest it hit was 50c
so that cheap $20 cooler was doing a great job.It would run at 4.2gigs stable, but I had to increase the voltage to 1.425v and it was hitting around 65c ,68c which is fine since the thermal specification is 74.1c,but since she not worried about it being major oclocked like I would ,I set it to 1.28v and at 3.7gig and the highest the tempertures gets is 46c.I have looked at some reviews and it runs pretty close to a E8600 at the same clock.

I bought a XFX Alpha Dog 8800GT 512mb for $75 that was refurbished. and it came clocked at 600/1500/1800 ,but it would overclock great at 780/1900/2150,so I flashed the Bios to
723/1836/2016.I put four gigs of PC8500 Dominator in it even tho it just shows as 3.25gigs since she runs windows XP.I ran a few benchmarks with it at 3.7g and the card is clocked at 723/1836/2016 and she has a Samsung 22" monitor max resolution is 1680x1050
3DMark03- 41,440 and 3DMark06- 13,720

I'm looking to build my gf a spare parts pc but I'm thinking more of an e4300 as she'll only use it for Facebook.

edit: read the op. damn man you dont need my help, seems like you choose your products well. that is a great result on both the cpu, and [with emphasis] the gpu. nice job. if youd like a x1900xt for your gf, let me know, ill ship it to you for just the shipping and handling.
