Wow, Roddick is playing better than ive ever seen him, he took the first set!

Federer has been on the back foot and has only just got a boost of confidence beating Roddick in a tiebreak in the second set.

I'm rooting for Roddick because i think he wants it more and because a year ago he was thinking about retiring.

Absolutely incredible...yet incredibly heart breaking. I don't think Andy will ever get another chance like that.

Epic match! It's hard for Roddick but I'm happy Federer got his 15th major title :D

Well played Andy. All the work you've put in is definitely paying off. He actually was the better player for many stretches but Federer seemed to be biding his time (and trying to figure out A-Rod's serve).

Fantastic match and for Andy, the US Open must be looking awfully juicy. He has won before and been a finalist since his win and I expect him to be right up there in consideration.

And seeing all the past champs, with Borg, Laver and Sampras, goosebumps :D

Also, I HATE it when they ask "who is the Greatest of All Time". You can't say. Everyone has played in different times with different technologies, courts and what not. You can't possibly compare. Federer is amazing and is the current generations greatest, just as Sampras was his generations and so forth.

Roddick shouldn't retire. He played damn good tennis today. He can win it again.

Federer won't play with the same hunger again.

Nadal is currently injured, Murray still hasn't got the full stamina he needs, Djokovic isn't that brilliant at the best of times.

Roddick still has a few good years left.

Andy is only a couple of years older than the other blokes.

He also has less of an "impact" game than Nadal and Murray so the mileage shouldn't affect him as much.

Having met him in person, I am still amazed at how much power he generates on his serves

He doesn't seem much bigger than me, but no way in hell could I get even close to his service speeds :rofl

Nadal's knee's are a concern and have been the last 2 years. Murray is a beast for the future. He will win eventually (unless he turns into a headcase, which I doubt).

Novak has a lot of skill and has a grand-slam under his belt.

Federer is fading. He is still the best, but there is just something about him right now. He SHOULD have dominated the game, but didn't really attack. I know part of it was what A-Rod did, but he just seemed passive.

But, at the end of the day, someone else's best (besides Nadal) v/s his not best == Federer win still, in 5 setters.

Tennis anyone? I feel like playing again after watching that match.

Cheers.

he is pretty jacked. For tennis players though (and for most sports), just muscle "bulk" is pretty useless. Explosive "twitch" fibres is what counts.
How he times the ball is pretty incredible though.
My best ever serve, when i timed it perfectly, is in the 123-125 range. I use the same service motion as he does, but timing is operfectly with the toss is what lets me down.

Yes, tossing it short usually lets most men down, so I have heard. ;)

Also, what is operfectly mean. Swiff the reply must be.

EDIT: Nice serve speed BTW.

He generates his pace with his legs as far as I can see from his action.

Great match. Not quite of the "epic" nature as last year's final versus Nadal IMO, but great nonetheless.

As a television spectator, it didn't matter to me who won as I like to see history being made (with a Federer win) and seeing a certain amount of vindication with an underdog win (with a Roddick win). I can honestly say I was rooting for Roddick though. I too hope he can fully recover from what has to be such a huge disapointment.

I meant perfectly. Its all about the timing for me, i am big enough to generate the pace.

Thanks :)

Well they all use legs. You have to use our whole body. Just Roddick's "twitch" is off the scale.

Yeah, the serve is very important. Gotta be careful though, when used to play competitively I totally messed up my back and was out for 4 months on rehab and also was seeing chiropractor (a serve being so one sided). Being a lefty, I had a wicked AD court serve that was hard to return for all you righties...problem was I was not going over the ball at it's apex but more to the side. That gave my serve a hefty slice but over the course of time worked my back.

Moral of the story...don't get too greedy for them aces.

Cheers! :D

Why the hell do people go to see chiropractors?

They are NOT doctors :D

Better to see a specialist I would think.

LOL, I never had before, this back issue was my 1st encounter with one. I had been seeing a rehab/strenght specialist but it was the chiropractor that got me over the hump and back in the game. So for me it worked.

Never seen once since tho.

i hate f*cking lefties :D
anyways, about your serve, you messed up your back with a slice serve? i would think most people mess their back up because they toss too far behind/to the side with a kick serve. With a slice its much more natural to lean into the court. Dont think i have ever heard of this.
