GTX 285 or 295

I tried it twice (sli that is) in a couple different configurations. First setup was a pair of 6800 Ultras. It was "ok", but there weren't enough high-end games to really take advantage of it and the ROI just wasn't worth it.

My second effort was as an early adopter of the 7950GX2...big mistake. It cranked some serious frames in a few games, but required so much effin tweaking and never really got stable drivers so I ditched it for a single 8800GTS (G92).

Now I run a single GTX285 1GB card and that works fine. I'm fortunate to have a good job and the assets to direct towards the improvement of my pc/gaming hobby, but sli just doesn't have the performance in the few games I play to warrant it...right now anyway.

I think SLI is the way to go ,I have had many setups with SLI from the 6800 ,7800GT,7800GTX ,7900GT,7900GTX 8800GTS,9800GTX to the GTX 280 setup that I am running now ,I have never had problems with micro-studder or any other problems .True there are some older games that SLI does'nt help ,but then I can always turn SLI off,and with the older games one GTX 280 is more then fast enough to play what ever game I am playing with more then enough framerates.There are more games that SLI helps then it's hurts. (IMO) I like ATI cards ,but I have had trouble with cross-fire,IMO I think SLI is a better solution.

I first had sli with my previous 8800GTX cards.

I was so impressed that when it was time to upgrade i just bought 2 285's right away.
Performance increase is i think always between 50 and 95 % . Never have to tweak sh^t really.
And in the odd chance that sli won't work in a 10 year old game or so, you can just turn it off.

Also i did not understand bigman's question really. I mean 2 x 285 is faster than 1 x 295 .

AND cheaper (in his case since he already has a 285 ) . Faster + cheaper. Why even ask what to do lol ??
