I particularly enjoyed the first Homeworld and thought Cataclysm wasn't bad either. This new one looks pretty good. I think it's coming out sometime this summer if I remember correctly. Suppose I better hurry up and finish Freelancer. :)
YES! Homeworld and HW:Cataclysm rank in my top 5. Amazon.com lists August 26 as the projected ship date, so we've got some time.
Hmmm. Maybe I'll have to reinstall and play through it again for old times' sake... ;)
Cheers,
JND
I can't wait for it. Plus Karen Sjet looks extra hot this time round ;)
Its probably going to be a great game, but the textures need work. In all of the Screenshots, and one video, all the textures looked kind of blurry.

HW2 is going to be a must-have for any RTS fan. But since I'm not one, I could give two flanges of a rat's behind. :p ;)

August 26th should give me plenty of time to finish Freelancer.
Homeworld and Cataclysm were one of the few games I've ever actually re-played in excess of 2 or 3 times all the way through. Good stuff!

Did you by any chance not harvest every scrap of minerals in each of your missions? It takes a bit longer to get through the game that way but I *guarantee* a kickazz fleet. By the time I got to the end I had 3 heavy cruisers, about 9 destroyers, and a ton of frigates that you capture in one of the later missions (but not at the ending).

lol....i remember making dinner, taking shower, going for a walk with dog and reading newspaper AFTER one mission...while harvesters were searching for every damn scrap of resource they could find.....it took then 2.5 hours....
i think it was one with high radiation...where u need to send carrier with harvesters docked or something like that......i know it took ages ;)))
i think my mistake was not making gravity wells:mad: ....so when i was attacked from all direction in last mission...i couldn't block it all.....

Same here, I had the fleet maxed out. I also get pretty good at capturing those white alien multi-beam frigates in the nebula, I had about 8 of those. I beat the final mission pretty easy.
I think the final mission of Cataclysm was a biotch though, having to trap the beat mothership with an emp while its running around the whole map.
I was reading that in HW2 they adjusted the game design some so that you won't have to go back and reload an ealier game if you don't have the right fleet for the mission.

I loved that little trick of a group of salvage corvettes (I generally used about 8) with an escort (6-10 fighter-class) and a bunch of cloak generators (6). Sneak in, grab the ships, and haul booty for the mothership! I'd lose a couple of the smaller ships but get some pretty groovin' capital ships in return -- destroyers, missile destroyers, multi-beam frigates, ion frigates, the works.

Yep, gotta love that salvaging trick. Without it my fleet would've taken longer to build up.
I agree about Cataclysm though, that final mission is a long one and pretty tough. While I have won by blowing up the Nagarok with the siege cannon, that is the toughest way to do it. Later in that last mission you gain technology to develop a corvette with multi-beam ion cannon tech. Build up a fleet of around 20 or more of those things, wait until the Nagarok comes close in to take out one of your dreadnaughts or destroyers, and pounce on it! It takes about 20 seconds of sustained firing from a group of those corvettes and she'll blow in no time.
I really enjoyed both the first game and the second installment. I *eagerly* await H2.
Now, if I can just find someone willing to play me multiplayer. It's kind of like monopoly though, there's a significant time commitment when you play head to head (at least an hour, probably longer per game). :D
