If I had one gripe about ATI's recent drivers it's that they haven't been providing leaks for us hardware masochists to play with. I love staying on the cutting edge and I'll make sure to snag these whence I get home.

Nope, I read over on Rage3D that a beta tester said it's a 3.4 set. :(

(I can't check, I STILL haven't faxxed 'em the NDA yet. )

Solomon - You're probably saying, "WTF Solomon, why did you remove the drivers" Well I didn't for about a couple of hours and now... I fold.

I don't care what anyone says, No OEM manufacturer is going to use a hacked or altered driver. The control panel says these are based off of 3.5 and I have to tend to agree with that. It might not be a "final" build of 3.5 that will be released soon, but these are in some form built on Catalyst 3.5.

I only play a handfull of games so asking me probably wouldn't do much good. I just mostly play Battlefield 1942 really. :)

Over @ guru3d

I actually was contacted by a certain anonymous user two days ago about his possesion of newer catalyst drivers with revision 3.5, ATI Radeon Drivers v6.14.10.6351

Yesterday a website already posted them and after a few hours the files had to be taken down likely due to ATI's legal department or something.

I don't have a clue what's happening precisely but ATI is claiming that the drivers are not Cat's 3.5 .. so okay. If they use a few builds higher they can use them as 3.5

The leak consisted of two parts the driver - v6.14.10.6351 - and the control panel - v6.14.10.5011. The driver and control panel core files were dated May 15th, 2003 yet the files seem very original. The driver leak seems to be an OEM leak from a manufacturer.

We'll follow this one closely as it's quite interesting to see why ATI is making such an extreme fuzz about it. I know that three sites already have been contacted by ATI not to post the drivers. We where about to post it today, yet this feels quite wrong so we won't for the time being.

I never seen such behaviour in the past from ATI, so what's going on with that driver, why is it so special ?

I`m just asking in general,
I need a clean install first, to much leftover nvidia drivers in my system...

Battlefield rock by the way.

I may be shaving with Achem's razor here, but perhaps there's some bug or something horribly wrong with these drivers that the ATI QA people have yet to fix.

I think with all the investigations going on into driver hacks and cheating, it may be that ATI have a little something in these drivers that they wouldn't want anybody to find.

I thought it was "Occam's razor", if'n you're talking about the simplest theory being the best. ;)

I'm wondering if there might still be some "optimizations" in 'em since they're dated 5/15 and if the later 3.5 builds they've been removed.... (Hey, I can dream...can't I? :p )

I think these ARE a beta set that falls somewhere between the 3.4 & 3.5 set, so in a way both Solomon & Terry are right.

And who have ATi sued recently exactly?

I don't know if you've made a sudden, conscience decision to start looking stupid in all your posts here, but I have to congratulate you on doing a great job. :wtf:

I dunno why Terry is so dang upset about this, Software was leaked. But he is literally acting like its the end of the world.

One must wonder why, Quality or not, He's rowing against a tide when they have alrdy been downloaded by thousands of users, He acts like he's trying to contain a plague or somethen

You're probably right on the spelling, but you got the point I was trying to make. Yes, the journalist can't spell. Man am I glad the DM from Electronics Boutique wants to interview me so I can get out of the newspaper business for at least the time being.

Want to know something so ridiculously bad? That guy CM has the balls to tell a user to "use" the leaked/beta driver in hopes it fixes his NWN problem.

Can you believe that? After he hounds us about hosting the driver he has the nerve to tell someone to download it and use it to help solve their NWN problem. I told the Rage3D to just remove my account there. I have never ever seen so much two faceness going on over there it's disgusting.

I still remember all the Radeon 8500 people bitching about not having enough drivers available. Well when we do get a leak we get these beta members people jumping down our throats about it. I bet they wouldn't be singing that tune if they were not beta members.

Here is the post Solomon is referring to:

quote:Originally posted by ellingsen1
A one month release schedule should be fine. I am only playing with the leaked drivers now because one of the ATI employees on the board posted somewhere that the NWN problem will be fixed in 7.89. NWN Shadows on Undrentide came out yesterday and I just picked it up today. I did not want to look at boxes around the falling leaves and snow flakes. I still have not loaded the game yet to but am hoping for the best.

Cool then try 7.89 and let me know if it will take care of it! If not hey 7.90 is just a few days away and will be totally given the thumbs up by both our QA department and Microsoft.

As you can see, the guy had already downloaded the driver, had already installed it and justified his action because he wanted to check out NWN. So Terry just told him what any of us would say in such an occasion. I believe that you didn't read it properly and that's why you took it the way you did Solomon (you were a little too harsh there I must say, I've never seen you post like that; that's why i posted the way i did, it looked like you were flame-baiting there).

In any case, there are two ways of thinking here. ATi doesn't want to have leaks. It considers them a no-no, the drivers (at least as far as I know, please correct me if i am wrong) are theirs legally so they can do whatever they damn please with them. On the other hand there are the users used by the constant Detonator leaks that view such leaks as something normal and expected. You said something about beta testers jumping on you. Well, the beta testers have the real 3.5s for some time now, they already know the versions of the drivers included there, they have already seen this build that was leaked AGES ago, and they hear you saying "Extra Extra! Beta 3.5s! Beta 3.5s!". Of course they are going to say "These are not beta 3.5s" because frankly they are not! The 3.5s are based in the 7.90 codebase and not on the 7.89. It's all about perception. People will see "beta 3.5s" and will assume that it is the same codebase that the real 3.5s will be based.

And of course we wouldn't sing the same tune if we weren't beta testers. We are able to sing this tune because we know the facts ;)
