That's gonna be a fast rig. I'll be nipping @ your heels though. ;) You me and marqmajerie should do a few common tests to get some perspectives on # of cores, clockspeed and vidcard bandwidth scaling.

*ahem* I have a Phenom II 955 also. I have a couple benchmarks in the benchmark section. I've yet to max it out at 1900x1200. I think my single 260GTX is holding me back.

I have a 4890 and a Phenom x4 2.6 Ghz.
I am just waiting for the new Phenom II's @ 3.4 Ghz stock to upgrade.

What, you'd rather not play around with the very flexible multipliers of a Black Edition?

agreed, the BE is nice. I want to "break in" mine, before I OC it. It's a habit.

That's a nice rig. :D

I was wanting to go AMD for my next rig, but through my work I'm getting a complete i7 setup (minus the RAM), Vista Ultimate, and Windows 7 Ultimate, for just over $330. Couldn't resist the offer. :p

But keep us posted on how she performs. One thing is for certain, AMD is kicking and kicking hard. Most folk don't realize just how fast and powerful Phenoms really are. Side by side, with no measurement software running, ya'll would be hard pressed to see any difference between Intel's and AMD's offerings. Heck, I've seen in some reviews that the newer PhenomII X4s put out higher numbers when running multiple video cards at high resolutions. But I think that is debatable IMO. :)

Anyhow, like I said great looking rig. :D Enjoy it and let us know how she treats ya'. :)

Sure! You pick the tests and settings, bro. :)

And I'll throw some results in for my lightly-upgraded 939/AGP rig as well. @ 2.4ghz, 3gb RAM and with an HD3850 that'd make a good baseline.

Over the next week or so I'll put together a short and comprehensive list containing some gaming and productivity benchmarks.

I do like the choices in hardware and gigabyte makes solid amd boards all the way through and through.

XFX does a good job with AMD stuff from i hear and they offer good thermal padding.

The Phenoms with DDR3 don't do all that much better than DDR2 but who cares its cool.

I wish the Phenom II 965's would appear on Newegg already.. they have been "released any day now" since mid-June, and I even see them in some reviews. I see that Newegg lowered the price of the 955's.. they are actually cheaper than the 3.0 Ghz Denebs.. strange.

As soon as I can boot, yeah, definitely.

We should figure out what games we have in common. And FWIW I'll only be able to run @ 12x10 and/or 720p. :( Guess maybe we'll just have to steer these tests in a cpu-bound direction (that's what we were planning anyway, right? :p).

Guys, if I can't get ahold of an AM2 cpu tonight, do any of you have one I could borrow for a day and ship back to you so I can flash this dang Asus mobo?

I'm having an absolute blast :headexplode: with the AMD 770 RAID0 driver non-recognition in Vista64 installation.

I'll do what I can as soon as I can. :)
