"Here’s the latest AGP-based graphics card from HIS, the Radeon HD 4670. This new graphics card is equipped with 320 Stream processors, a 128-bit memory interface, a 1GB of onboard memory @ 1746MHz, a dual-slot IceQ cooler, a MOLEX plug for extra power and some multiple connectors including D-Sub, DVI and HDMI. The HIS Radeon HD 4670 retails for $129.99 ($119.99 after a rebate)."

Guru3D's VGA charts show that basically for every game that the 3850 wins @, the 4670 chalks one up as well, despite its 128 bit memory interface.

There are still PLENTY of 939/754 AGP users out there as well as some P4 owners and Core2 guys with that Asrock mobo who maybe haven't upgraded their 7800GS or X1650 Pro... and with the 3850 about to become in short supply, this HD 4670 will fit the bill nicely.

Thanks airbrushkid for the link. I knew about this but didn't realize it came so close to HD 3850 performance.

Title fixed.

And thanks for the info.

This looks like a nice card for people who want to give their AGP machine one last breath.

I have an Athlon 64 3000+ 939 with an Nforce 3 chipset that would probably work alright with a card like that.

It'd be nice if they made some 4650s as well though to keep prices down.

EDIT: Holy freakin hell... $130 for the 4670?

It should be half that.

Anyone who spends that much on an aging AGP system is crazy.

You could get a new board, a 2.8Ghz X2 and a 4830 for $200.

It'll come down to $100 and lower soon enough to replace the HD 3850 at that price point.

OT: Hey Cap'n, do you want my Opty 165 so you can ditch that single core? Great chip, but I just replaced it with an x2 4800.

Back OT: I think to some people, removing the 939 mobo form the case with its cpu and memory and knowing that a reinstall is imminent is too much of a chore, for whatever reason. So for these guys, a $100 shot in the arm for the PC is a great thing.

Running the SF4 benchie @ 720p with everything cranked + ink, 2xAA + 16x HQ AF I got 57fps... with a measly 2.0ghz x2 3800+(the Opteron would perform much the same, 200mhz slower but has more cache)and the HD 3850 lightly overclocked.

The HD 4670 AGP would perform much the same.

I am thinking of getting the HIS-4670 PCI-E for my HTPC.

I just installed the HIS 4670 1GB in my HTPC and wow the Blu-Ray & HD-DVD is so damn smooth compared to the onboard 3200. I installed the 9.7 and there is no issues at all. I couldn't be more happy.

I bought my GF a pentium 4 /AGP pc in an Overture II case from eBay for dirt cheap, I may turn it into an HTPC at one point so this is relevant to my interests.

But then I wouldn't want the total upgrade price to be more than a standalone player.

I'm surprised that there are slow downs with Blu-Ray on the HD 3200.

The reviews I've read seemed to indicate that it was more than fast enough to run a 1080p movie with GPU acceleration.

It will play ok but it's not as smooth. Some movies that were 30% to 36% CPU usage are now 12% to 20%. remember I am only running a 4850E-X2 @ 2.5 no OC. Plus I installed the HT Omega Striker 7.1 from my PC to the HTPC, so I disabled 1394/on board sound/video/NIC and now I am not using system memory for the on board video.

Still, I'm surprised that with 30-36% CPU usage the playback actually slowed down.

Those HD3200s overclock pretty well though. That might fix it.

I overclocked mine just to play around and it made a noticeable improvement in Crysis. :D

Yeah, let me know how it does with your new Blu Ray player. I think it will be fine But if you ever get a card the 4760 is great, short, no power cable and runs cool.
