View Full Version : AMD LOSSES CONTINUE

One troubling sign: AMD's gross profit margin is shrinking, while Intel's is improving. Gross margin is critical for chip makers because it reflects how well they're controlling costs.

Well it not going to help by cutting CPU and graphics prices every 3 months, AMD kept lose money every quarterly with no profits for 2 years. Q3 outlook will be another disappointment with yet another losses.
I never heard of companies lost money with no profits for 2 years!

Also, if you read all the current stories in the front page of nvnews, you'll see every single aspect of nVidia's array of services and products is positively reviewed and generally well received compared to AMD. nVidia is unstoppable right now and now it is so clear to see how one company is managed over the other.

Yeah the 4x00 series sold amazingly well, much better than the 2x0 series. I can't wait to see R800. If it has a 4+ month head start on nvidia, even people that would normally buy a nvidia card could switch over and push even more people into the ATI camp.
I think AMD is doing pretty good, I may do my next PC with AMD.

Lets look at it little more optimistic, probably very hard for some with AMD death wish. Just about every company is loosing some money these days, the AMD did beat the expectation by a little.
This forum is about Graphics Cards, the ATI graphic unit posted only $12 million loss, down from a profit of $1 million the previous quarter. The third quarter with new cards should hopefully put the graphics division again in the profit.
Looks like I have to help them and buy few of them new cards. :)

Yeah well Intel can improve their profit margin all they want, until they stop dabbling in anti-competitive business practices that growing profit margin will only continue to pay off the fines they accrue from watchdog agencies.
Intel has a very poor corporate image right now, an image they've earned.

I think my next build will be AMD simply because the price/performance ratio of their stuff nowadays is amazing. Once I convince myself to upgrade my 8800GT, it'll most likely be Xfire'd 4890s :D

I love nVidia products, but this is clearly not true. If I had money to burn right now and the next gen of cards wasn't just around the corner, I'd upgrade to an AMD video card. They really do make very fast, feature rich cards and offer them at very reasonable prices.

Hi intel
I am also love nVidia products. I am using nVidia products for graphics support in my pc and all the games are working fine so You are replacing your nVidia to AMD video card that's nice but can you give me some information about that AMD video card i never used that Card. If this card is available in reasonable price then i will think about it but my point pf view nVidia is the best for me.

I think it has to do with advertising gone wrong. The single word "antioxidants" in his signature should have been a link. My guess? Stupid advertisers supposedly being smart, using "undetetectable" methods to spam forums... :rofl

Reason why AMD doesn't make any money out of CPUs and Video Cards is because the cost to make them is almost as sale price. They make few bucks to cover other expenses, pretty much they have no profit for some time now.

I have no intention of replacing my video card anytime soon (I'm poor), but my point was that in the benchmarks for the HD 4890 and such, AMD clearly holds its own. There may be small differences in FPS in certain apps in favor of both vendors, but the HD 4890 and the GTX 285 are so close in performance that if you're not a fanboy and if you're not ridiculously rich, it might make sense to go with the less pricey AMD.

Yet if you go here (http://www.amdzone.com/) they have some pretty encouraging news regarding AMD. Fancy that.
AMD may not be bringing in money like Intel or nVidia- but they still manage to offer competitive products. Recently I've been building rigs for multiple family members and several friends, all of which are AMD-based rigs. The last one I built was for my sister, used the PhII X2 550. Just doing basic stuff in the desktop it was every bit as fast and responsive as my Q6600 based rig was. And it cost less than comparable Intel-based platforms at that time.
Don't believe all the doom-and-gloom people talk about regarding AMD here at this site. There's some pretty impressive things comming from that company.
