Can someone tell me what the big deal about DX 11 is? Has any DX 11 games been announced at the release of Win7/DX 11 enabled cards?
If not they better sell these cards cheap, I think a lot of customers have learned not to buy a card that hypes a feature set not implemented upon it's release. And the state of PC gaming, I don't see many devs/pubs announcing a feature that is PC only......
I don't think either NVIDIA OR ATI has a need to sell the new more powerful DX11 cards cheap, the cards also suport DX10 and 10.1 (something NVIDIA doesn't have yet). I only hope the days of $650 cards are over at least for some time.
Here are some games with DX11 support listed at Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_11_support).
Developers will announce features that are PC only you just don't see it. The DIRT 2 PC version (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/12727/colin_mcrae_dirt_2_pc_delayed_with_dx11_support/index.html) is delayed till December in order to support DX11
Maybe I'm wrong but it sounds like you're a little negative about the DX11 so use Google to find out more about the DX11 advantages, there are many articles about it.

Thanks Heinz,
No I'm not negative about DX11, I'm negative about someone trying to sell me something I may never use because of the game devs moving to console gaming with PC only as a last resort...

I am more interested in the ~2x performance over the 4870 than the dx11 support, but it's a nice plus.
DX11 also supports GPUs from SM3 to SM5, so basically there is no more need to support dx9 or dx10 on vista/windows7 platforms.
There is some nice performance advantages even for old cards.

I suppose that Dxcompute should work with GF8*** and later,
but other things like tessellation will require a Dx11 card.
I think Ati's HD4*** have a tessellation unite but it's not valid for Dx11
Dx11 also take advantage of multicore and that should work for any card
SM5 and such operations do need a new card, but the API doesn't need need new hardware to work.
One of the biggest things for developers is that there is no need to write dx9 or dx10 support for vista or win7.
Write dx11 program with different profiles and that is enough.
