Im replaying Drakan and I tried jacking up the AA since its such an old game and it doesn't seem to have any effect. I made a video of the game running at 1680x1050 with 16xA, as you see it just doesn't look like theres any AA.

Im running the 190.38 Series on Windows 7 x64 on my Desktop.

Anyone have any suggestions? Normally I don't care about such a high level of AA but being that its such an old game I would like to see it with the max possible. ;)

Try different modes with nHancer, especially SSAA and mixed modes.

something like 4x4SSAA or 32x mixed mode (4xSSAA * 8xMSAA) should look incredible, especially in levels with environment bumpmapped water.

Nope, Tried every AA Option. I think the game is overriding the settings I choose since in its configure utility it shows Bilinear Filtering and AA Disabled (no way to enable it, all greyed out).

Ok, So it looks like its a profiles issue... if I set my CP to override it will work. Kinda annoying to have to go to my CP and change my settings whenever I want to play the game.

How did you get this game to run without crashing? I just installed it and am able to load the game and set my controls, but if I go to video options or new game it crashes to the desktop. I've tried various compatiblility modes and even set all the options to bare minimum.

Are you loading a saved game or starting fresh? The game has an issue with a new game start on newer systems. I have a save file from the beginning if you want it.

Other then that I never experianced any issue with the game, just make sure its patched to 445. No compatibility mode needed...

LOL stupid me, I didn't patch it.... that's always the first thing I do. I'll give it a try.

Ok I got it going using tips from ThePirateBay (naturally). I loved this game back in the day and gotta thank you for reminding me of it, now I can play it again. I loaned it to someone years and years ago and never saw it again but thanks to the aforementioned I can relive the nostalgia :captnkill: I wouldn't really consider it piracy since I bought it once and the game and any trace of it in a profitability sense has disappeared entirely. Psygnosis is defunct and Surreal has nothing about it.

I have AA working as well, but I always profile my games so that's probably why.

Why must you be an idiot and even bring that up... can't you just post that you got the game working?

?

WTF was that all about. You have a sore spot about something? Thanks for your help nonetheless.

What Magus meant was that we could have done without your lame, immature self-justification for piracy with a dumbass smiley to offset it.

I paid for the game back when someone was able to profit from it. The game cannot be purchased ANYWHERE right now, not even gog.com. End of story.

So because you purchased it once and no longer own it gives you the right to steal it?

I'll tell you what, you find out who I can pay for it and I'll send them $5.99 which is what gog.com would charge for it if they had it.

Bill,
This site does not condone piracy. Even talking about links to pirated info is grounds for a permaban. FYI.

Pay for it, loser.

With his rationale, he'd be shoplifting all that expensive hardware he apparently bought in his signature.

If I could be bothered to set out the multitude of legal software I have I'd post a pic, but then again that wouldn't be good enough I'm sure. I dump way more than my $share$ into the industry, so piss off.

Game uninstalled. Kind of hard to get back into a game that uses 3 polygons per model.

I could swear I read somewhere that Drakan - Order of the Flame was declared abandonware and legal to share now, but could be wrong (the developer and publisher are long gone and one of the Devs even wrote up a big long "Post Mortem" on it...which is also long gone now)...but anyway, this game was one of the last truely great games made I think.

Anyway, as of Windows XP, and Geforce 4 or so cards, it became really hard to run. Crashes when you select game difficulty and randomly all through it. I found an unofficial patch a while back that fixes that if you're interested. Seemed to work well for me. Patch to official 445 version, then add this 445++ thing.

It is abandonware, these guys just wanted to hear themselves talk. I found that same patch and it worked but I couldn't get back into the game. I know it was a good game but it looks so bad to me it's hard to get into :) I honestly have an easier time of playing old emulated SNES titles.

Yeah, I get that "graphics shock" too, but after about 10 minutes playing, I forget all about it and think it looks great again.

Man, I had forgotten all about this great game. I am going to dig it out right now !
