OK, WMP12 is a rather huge step back compared to WMP11.

1) they removed advanced tag editor
2) It seems to have issues with large libraries
3) If you "delete" something in library, but not removed from PC, there is no option in player to get it back, before you could select add removed items, and scan the library again, seems to be missing now
4) can't stop it adding all the pictures in my picture folder, even when removing pictures from the side menu it still keeps adding all of them
5) why are there pictures in WMP? isn't windows live gallery for that
6) having sync issues with WMP12 and WM6.5
7) likes to resize folder.jpg album art from higher-res to 200x200

2 is just plain garbage dude.

Had the exact same issues and with media center tied into wmp12 its harder to deal with it.

11 has issues with large libraries to cuz i have about 83,000 songs in my library and wmp likes to stop responding when calculating the stats which is a big pain.

I like Rhapsody and even kmp player and songbird now.

Maybe they fixed some stuff with the final builds who knows.

I've never upgraded from WMP 10, because I didn't see the point. I have other programs that I much, much prefer over it for each type of media file.

The other day I accidentally opened Windows Media Player and was greeted by the Media Player configuration wizard thing.

I'd had windows installed for like 6 months and never even run WMP.

I use Media Player Classic Home Cinema for videos and Foobar 2000 for music.

WMP is pretty awesome in Win7.

If you get the right codecs installed, it'll play all your files for you so it makes MPC sort of redundant. I prefer having MPC just because of my familiarity, but WMP12 is pretty good :D

yeah the codec support is great, but those changes that I noted in first post are quite annoying

speaking of codec support, what really suprised me that win7 doesn't have official VC-1 support, codec used on some BD disc. Codec is MS sponsored yet no support in win7. while H264 is supported

I use WMP12 works great for what I use it for and the codec I have installed the quality is WAY better then VLC. I watch around 2-6hours of anime a day with WMP12. not a problem.

yea same, except with vlc :P.

i just like how easy it is to get it up and running, no messing around with codecs.

With WMP11, the window could be set to a certain size. I have a 1920x1200 panel, so I set it to fill a good portion of the screen. This would do two things: 1. Video files would open to the size of the player window, and 2. MP3s would run in a minimal mode suitable for audio. This was actually somewhat broken going from 10 to 11 as it stopped understanding when to be a full window and when to be minimal controls, but it still was functional.

With WMP12, all window sizing has been "forgotten." WMP12 now opens to the size of the video, regardless of the video's dimensions. On a 1920x1200 screen, this means most non-HD videos open as a postage stamp. There *is* a workaround however, using CTRL to resize the window will "lock" it in that size. Unfortunately the player will open ALL media in this size, including music, so a music file opens as a black video screen.

This matches the "one size fits all" nature of the Windows 7 windowing system itself, which has concluded that a window with 10 things in it should be the same size as one with 400 things. Great job Microsoft.

+2. I only use it if VLC can't play a WMA or WMV. VLC FTW.

Video

be more specific, to encode, to decode, what type of video etc..

or do you mean codec pack? if codec pack then win7 codec pack, from the same person that did the vista codec pack.

I still use it to listen to music and watch videos that do not require and other type of player. Its faster than itunes and vlc imo.
