It's a shame, but it's a good business move. No need to sell a card that costs about the same as the 9800 Pro to produce and sell it for $100 less.

My local Circuit City still has a couple left at $299...I would like to upgrade my Geforce 3 at some point, but refuse to pay $399 for any card. Is $300 a "fair" price for these now, or should I continue to wait for something further down the pipeline? I only have a 1.7 P4, but will be upgrading to a 2.6 soon. My other problem is that I just started playing Neverwinter Nights, and I like it a lot. The performance at 1024x768 is OK, but I've heard the performance on a Radeon in NWN is about the same, if not worse.

Guys, ATI will be selling the 9800 non pro at $299.00(retail) as soon as they are out of 9700Pros. The real deal, though - and these will dry up - are the 9700 non pros. They can be had for $200.00 - get them while you can!

And, as far as NWN goes, it had major problems when the 9700's first came out - and it really caused a bad stink because Bioware at first blamed ATI, when the real problem was using exclusive nV programing. After a major uprising by users, though, the problems were fixed, and NWN now runs fine on ATI's......

It's alway best to check with user forums for any software you want to use BEFORE you :
a) Buy any product, and
b) put your foot in your mouth!
Ti's also a good idea to get multiple imput, as many so called "problems" are caused by a short curcuit between the seat and the keyboard - if you know what I mean!

The man speaks wisdom, listen to him!

The 9700 np right now is a hell of a bargain! Most of 'em can be clocked up to 9700 Pro speeds without changing a thing, and the ones that can't generally come REAL close and you still got that fatty 8-pipe going for ya.

And I just gotta add one little comment on the 9700 Pro's retirement:

"The King is dead, long live the King."

(I'm thinking it's pretty safe to assume that the 9700 Pro has earned it's spot in graphics card history. It signified/changed the scene a LOT! )

You could keep an eye out for real bargains as the remaining 9700 series will probably be sold off quickly (atleast they'll try, no store wants to be left with a supply of old expensive cards that won't sell ;) )

Pete mentioned refurbed 9700 np's for $170 over at NewEgg in the thread linked to in B3D's forum, sweet deal by the sound of it. :)

This simply means they wont be selling them anymore correct (meaning they are fully support still)

Look at this logically - Do you think it would be very smart for ATI to stop supporting this card?

NVIDIA hasn't made a GeForce3-based card in many months, yet you can still use recent driver updates on them.

They released a driver update for the rage128 series this year, methinks they'll be supporting the R300 series for a looong while yet.
