I use the latest drivers from EVGA with the X58for the 2 285's and i get this goofy error at times not in games but when the system sits awhile or when i was browsing pictures.
I usually do driver installs in safemode and usually i remove them in program and features so what might be causing this error?
I got it with one card and now when i added another card i got it so its not the hardware cuz i switched cards with the most newest bought one in the main slot so its a driver stopping i think.

I took down a couple of threads witht he same issue but im not having that issue
I have the HX 1k Corsair and its cool enough for power use and the 2 285's are ok heat wise so its something in that file or driver in Vista.
Could be an issue with the set of drivers and haven't been discovered yet as a issue.

vista sometimes downloads video drivers randomly by itself if they are selected. Be care when the update thing comes up you dont select that.
What drivers are you using ?

I have the exact same problem and a very similar setup. It has to be driver related as i only got this error with 190.38. I also have the random black screen bug since 190.xx.
I guess i will have to go back to the 182.50 as i had none of these issues. (lee63)

So what your saying than is the driver could be causing this where you fine get awesome framerates in games blowing smoke but out of the blue no reason at all it Blue screens driver stopping.
Why isn't this documented in the newer driver releass.
It seems these drivers work fine with **** rigs but those wo are running highend systems have this issue.

Might be, for me it happens *only* when browsing pictures using Vista's Windows Photo Gallery. It is hard to reproduce but quickly browsing backwards through large .jpg files (5 to 8MB) sometimes causes a BSOD.

Thats it.
Even when picutres screensaver was running it would do this.
I had it running all day yesterday and was fine so its weird could be the setting for performance or adaptive too cuz some pics will use gpu.

I get a BSOD while running at 2D speed, not sure about your last comment.

I don't really monitor that but it could be 3D related.
Nok on wood now but who knows later though.
Their is no event log of this in the viewer either so will keep finding clues.
Its funny how many others haven't been to this thread about this.
It seems no one has this issue or they are clueless to whats going on.

Maybe we share the same pics on our HD? :D
But seriously, i've read somewhere that Vista can crash when some .jpg metadata is corrupted.
Could be a Nvidia driver/SLI/X58/Vista 64/.jpg decoding combination that causes the crash, hence a smaller audience.

I really wish their was some info out their for a fix but like i said, i been lucky now and i siff through all sorts of high res hd pics so maybe its good now.
Vista blows with this cuz i had this issue a couple of years ago with non sp1 vista so who knows.

With 190.56, all my desktop icons are corrupted and i cant get 32 bit colors. Stuck at 16 bit. Reverting to 190.38 :thumbdwn:

Sounds like it's time for an OS reinstall.
The issue has nothing to do with Vista and everything to do with Nvidia.
The only crashes I have ever had on either my Vista or Win 7 boxes have been due to Nvidia driver failures. Not repeated by my AMD drivers or any other drivers. All other failures are contained within the OS and a BSOD is avoided.
The Nvidia driver failure has, I believe, the single biggest direct failure rate for the Vista OS.

Just saying.
And the sad thing is I STILL get failures related to Nvidia drivers. You'd think they would have figured this stuff out about 3 years after the OS was available internally.

Very good point.
Im doing fine now and did some large size image searches in my widescreen pics and seems solid now and did some stuff to stress this issue and alls good.
I really want to know what could be or caused this bsod though.
