It's Counter Strike. It has to be optimized for the tech 1337 from 5 years ago.
yea... the graphics are a tad abouve the original cs.. but they still suck, and i still dont know why they are even bothering to release this when hl2 is going to be released in a few months.
and its all these cs players with compaq computers from 1995 that dont allow me to enjoy my system to the fullest... *sigh*
Whats your problem? You're whinging cos theres a popular game that doesn't require a state of the art machine to play? Why exactly is that annoying you?
There are plenty of other games that will, or are you of the mind that if ppl dont have top range hardware, then they're not good enuff to play with you?

I was looking forward to this one, I'm into single-player and was curious to find out how well they captured the whole CS experience in a single-player game. :cool:

im talking about people that play that game in software mode... and are generally "newbish" wondering why their system cant play ut2003 really fast.
since there are players that arent aware of the computer hardware, and play software mode on a super old computer, it encourages game developers to appeal to where the "masses are" im not talking about a few year old systems, im talking about really, really old systems. ive known too many people that consider their machine "state of the art" because cs runs fast with a geforce2mx...
sure they can be great players, and whip my ass a few times too! but im a cs fan, and unforutnately im a graphics nut... and basically... the graphics suck

As long as people play ancient games like HL/CS, they won't have a reason to upgrade thier stone age comp's. If they won't upgrade then the rest of us have to suffer through underpowered games because game makers feel they need to cater to EVERYONES needs as a gamer even if that means continuing to release games that can run on a PII 300.
Dont worry I think that there are lots of games that can push top end pcs ;)
I never liked the whole CS thing, because it is so damn ugly, I mean games I was playing 4 years ago looked better, and the R6 games had better gameplay IMO. I know I know its a very old game engine, still ugly, so ugly it hurts my eyes to look at it :barf:

thats why ive been so involved in the raven shield still.. the only thing that bothering me is the amount of bugs that are in raven shield... i still get the ladder bug from time to time, the ret bug, and with the new 1.3 patch everyone is getting a dedicated server bug... where it freezes at 1 sec. i think this game could be my favorite game of all time if it wasnt for these annoyances.
also the trigger lag is pretty bad... (the netcode is serverside rather than client side)
but besides these, its my favorite game:cool:

have u ever thought of what cs 2 would look like? u reckon that they'll make a cs on the hl 2 engine? i reckon it would be sweeet! i have to say, im a hl/cs fan, and i still play it. im one of those fps nuts. if u get 100fps, it looks good. so, with my pc, i get good frame rates with it. i love it! ut 2003 isn't the greateset game IMO, but when they said that they'd allow software renderer, what type of computer systems were they saying could run it?

It's not only the lackluster graphics that drive me to the hills everytime the name CounterStrike is uttered. A large part is the community that plays the afore mentioned game. Hackers and cheaters run unchallenged for the most part through the countless servers giving them the illusion that they are good at a game they cheat at. Trying to find a decent server can be compared to taking a sharp stick in the eye. Once you somehow accomplish this amazing task, you can't be better than the server host or you'll be branded a cheater and banned. Not to mention the whitty banter you must endure throughout your playing time there by every 12 year old, AOL genius. Now that HL2 is being released, I can just hear the thoughts of nearly every cs player. "OMG. HL2 is teh best. CS2 will be teh 1337est game!!" Now every hacker who THINKS they are some game god will be on this like flies on, well, you get the idea. In my opinion, CS is a good game that suffers from a poor community.

lol.....not once i got ppl complaining to me that their Half Life looks really bad and that's why they are not playing it....and offourse they had it in software mode....they usually go "WOW!!" after u change that....last of such incidents happened maybe 2 months ago....
i was LANing yesterday.....4 of us....one guy upgraded his comp to 700mhz cpu and gf4 mx....and was going "WOW!!" at how things work for him....
thing is ...they would like to get better comps, but they can't afford them...and many ppl around world simply can't afford upgrade to keep with newest gfx .......you have to think about those that play on p3 700-800 with 128 memory and gf2mx....cause if u don't,you lose to many customers.....
would be great if everybody would just have p4 or bartons...but that ain't real.....

I'm sure you could even build one for less using pricewatch or another company or by tweaking your hardware selection a bit. Heck. Even with that price, one could afford it by picking up and recyling soda can found along side the road, working a little overtime, or maybe even doing a few odd jobs for cash. All I saying is that it's not that expensive to upgrade anymore and that rig will get you through any game up to the Doom3/ HL2. Even then it could play them although not as nice as one would like to. :)

Considering how long it takes them to get CS1.6 out of beta(and 1.5 before that), I reckon we won't see CS2 for quite some time.
On the subject of graphics, all I ask for is scalability. Sure, let those poor gamers with old hardware play at low resolution with all details off to get the game playable. I'm not against that. Just let those of us with better systems have the option of turning UP the graphic detail so we can get more use of our hardware.
Forcing low detail graphics on everyone is just silly. Admittedly, I am sure this is more a limitation of the HL engine than the artists who did CS.

it's not THAT expansive when u have cash....i had to go for 12-month credit to upgrade my comp, but most ppl simply can't afford it. guy at whos house we were LANing yesterday had his phone line cut cause he didn't pay bills.....he simply can't afford to upgrade comp to anything more then 700mzh cpu and gf4mx.....that's big step for him....not that ppl don't want to upgrade, they simply can't afford it:mad:

with no meaning to hurt anyone's feelings, nor to BS anything nor anyone here, i still think people, including myself, should take a look outside the bubble we're somehow living in, and realize half of world's population is suffering from starving.... and may be then, we would all realize that games and video cards are not really such an important thing, at least not when people is dying and needing REAL stuff... and i'm not saying we should stop playing games, neither stop buying expensive hardware... just don't make a big deal of this kind of stuff, and please, don't bash out against people who's hardware is not "adequate" to play latest games at affordable resolutions, they by no mean (at least most friends of mine who "suffer" from this) intend to ruin anyone's time, they just try to play. in any case, as StealthHawk pointed out, the finger should be pointed to devs who don't take into account scalability.

I don't get and can't stand the whole CS subculture on the net. It got real boring fast playing against kids 14 years old calling you a F@g or say pwnd. It just drove me nuts. Then the worst thing about CS came along......the hacking. I played against kids I nomally kicked the crap out of but now I couldnt get out of the buy menu with out be AWPd'. Grrrr I hate it.

lol to all u people that dont like cs. i use "Game Arena" to play. its a bunch of free servers that are run by "Telstra". there pretty much the major telephone line and cable sp around here in aussie. knowone can cheat, and yeah, u do get awped alot by people like me, but im beggining to like bf1942 more. i'd have to say its the best game 2 date right now. oh and i NEVER, i really mean it, i NEVER use random servers. only use GA.
and there are millions of misfortunate people that are out there starving, if u can afford it, please sponsor one. instead of buying a spankin new radeon 9800, save a little kids life (a little sarcasm there, but its a pretty serious situation).
and for the people with cardboard boxes for computers with 1st generation chips in em (the ones that look like light bulbs), its hard to upgrade when u can't afford it. ALL games should be made to be able to play on lower end c'board boxes, but should be able to have modes like: SUPER low, Low, medium, high, really high, EXTREMELY high, and HOLY CRAP THATS NICE!
no offence, but people with lower end computers usually aren't into games n stuff as much. i have to say, i only paid $65 for my computer. my parents bought mine. its a long story, and im not rich, neither are my parents. and yes, our phones been disconnected before 2. so people with crap computers, i feel your pain...i used 2 have a celeron 500 w/gforce 2 32mb until a bout a month ago.
