I thought I was going to like Windows 7. Tried out the RTM though and found it is just Vista with a few small, insignificant improvements, like better options in the Defragmenter, and just as many new annoyances, like not remembering window size/position, and being stuck at 59 hertz (not 60) refresh rate no matter what you do. These 2 alone would prevent me from ever using Win7 if not fixed. Some games REQUIRE 60 hertz or they simply will not run. Battlefield series? Halo FFS! I'm not sure if it's Vista or Nvidia but the Nvidia Control Panel is a total mess in WIN7 with many broken or stuck settings.
I did not find it any faster though it may be on a lower end PC. It comes with no email client but half the old Windows Mail program's files are still sitting there...WTF? I don't care if they remove it, but....well REMOVE it, don't just break it.
Homegroups? The new more cumbersome taskbar with zero advantage over the old one? The new "shake the window" feature that drops everything else to minimized? Yeah, you'll need it now that all windows will pile up on top of each other.

i believe the 59hz things is actually 59.97 or something like that and in games ive always seen 60 as an option... but yea i agree that w7 is just vista with a few improvements and its a tad faster... it uses just as much ram and gaming performance is identical to vista

not stuck in 59 here.
Well I will buy Win 7 for my wife's PC. I have Vista retail so I will just reinstall it, I don't think it is worth me getting retail Win 7. I didn't really notice a performance increase either.
Well Win 7 appears to use less RAM for me. It also seems faster. I re-installed Vista a few weeks ago and after the two SP's, it still wasn't a great experience.
I am glad I pre-ordered Win 7.

I don't know what to say besides keep using it. It's HUGE improvement over Vista.

Yes, yes it is. Vista was buggy as hell and still is.
Yes, every enthusiast on this forum can and does get it to work well but point is - the common people using PC's don't. They can barely turn on the computer let alone ATTEMPT anything we discuss on this forum.
Point is - for the average user, it was a pain in the ass. W7 completely re-defines Vista and while it isn't a "new" O/S, it brings a lot to the table, including an easier experience for the end user.
Go with W7. Anyone who wouldn't install it over Vista, well, have fun with Vista. The failed O/S.

Vista is fine and dandy well before sp3 once you spent a thousand trips to google for tips and tricks cuz your that good at it.
7 is a wakeup call to those who forgot about what xp was or what Vista should of been, yea Longhorn right.
I enjoy the new 7 but i love that vista bar alot more.

WTF.
Windows 7 is awesome in every way.
The new taskbar takes a little while getting used to, but it's also a really cool addition.
I'm very happy I ordered Home Premium at a discounted price :)
On a side note: I had no idea whatsoever of that "shake the window" feature!
Mine won't go to 60hz either, stays at 59hz. Dell 2407WFP. Games say 60FPS when I check (like WoW). So I dunno. I have the option to do 59 or 60, 60 won't "stick".
I had the problem with the 59 resolution, but resolved it by doing two things. First, I uninstalled Outpost Security Suite, which is in beta for W7, then enabled the Nvidia Display Driver Service in services.msc, just long enough to reset the resolution, then disabled it again. These two things solved several problems, besides just the resolution setting.

I switched to the RTM from a three week old Vista SP2 install and its quite the improvement imho. With Win7 I'm on the desktop in less than 30 secs and my HD activity light is dead in the water. With Vista my hd light is solid for over three minutes, every time. That alone is worth it to me but add the improved networking and the fact that I can keep a sustained 90MB/s+ transfer rate between my hds and you have a total winner. Vista is still pathetic in that regard.
Tbh I only wanted to see what the fuss was about and as much as I wanted it to be like Vista so I don't have to spend more money and time upgrading, it really is a lot better. Its worth the effort and $$ imho.

I think the 59 hertz thing is only on digital monitors, not CRT's. Maybe only if using a DVI/digital cable even? Anyway, yeah, set it to 60 and it resets to 59. I hear there are ways to force 60, but they cause other problems like Media Player crashing.
If they fix that, I will probably go with Windows 7 and find ways around all the other annoyances, as with any Windows version. And yeah, Vista is just bad. Sluggish, stuborn, buggy, etc. Vista is Windows 7 beta™©. People should be able to show their Vista sales receipts and get Windows 7 free....seriously. It reminds me of Windows ME! I actually fell for that one...bought it, installed it, went back to Windows 98 2 days later....it was AWFUL.
