as usual the issue of software not taking advantage of all available hardware threads is evident here. some software gets a big boost though.

Hmm interesting results. I especially like the power and temps. It is almost the same as a quad core for both but it has 2 more cores.

I'm curious as to what the AES instruction set will be used for. It has a really significant boost in computing power, but I'm wondering how it will help.

I like how they call Bloomfield "Bloodfield"

oh the humanity!

It does nothing more then accelerates encrypting/decrypting , encrypted stuff with AES , E.G whole disk encryption with TrueCrypt , for people like me who like to encrypt stuff this is awesome as it will take significantly less CPU cycles leave more CPU for other programs.

For regular Joe this is pointless. I wonder , will all new LGA1156 CPU's have this or just Gulftown.

I guess all 32nm Westmere chips will have the AES feature:

I hope these benchmarks are fake. That does not look like a good improvement at all over the existing chips...

What? It looks perfectly in line with what you'd expect for a 50% increase in logical cores(without any other noteable changes...past AES stuff).

Yup, they have them.

But the real next gen is coming with Sandy Bridge:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Sandy_Bridge_(microarchitecture)

The new AVX instructions will replace the old SSE set.

Basically, you will have expanded multimedia registers from 128 to 256 bit, and this will allow you to perform 2x times more multimedia instructions per clock cycle.

For me, as programmer, this is going to be the most important feature.

Maybe, but i know that there is no LGA1156 6 core CPU which makes LGA1156 bad investment already. I still don't get what is the point of LGA1156 socket, makes me think that perhaps Intel wants to kill AMD with it.

I don't like LGA1156 also but there is nothing we can do about it , if i want AES i have only two choises
A. pop 1000+ $ for Gulftown on LGA1366 or
B. get 200 $ Lynfield i7-860 equivalent of i7-920 and overclock.

Lynnfield is not a 32nm CPU so no AES support AFAIK.

AMD could already have 6 core desktop CPU if they were smart enough to have 1207 socket on desktop and not bother with AM2, AM2+ and AM3 which was really bad decision by AMD.

Damn, was realy hoping Lynnfield will be something more then castrated i7 :(

Lynnfield is 775 socket replacement, which is still selling good. I thought Intel would release some stripped down version of LGA1366 socket less cache etc. That would make more sense cause x58 mobos are in sub $180 price now.
