If you want to play with Greased Lightning then forget the computer and get a Wii and pick this up when available...

I'd rather have the Greased Lightning car, it was good enough to pick up Olivia Newton John. :luv:

Greased lightning-class speed requires:

at least 3 cpu cores ( http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/multi-core-cpu,2280.html )

4-6gb RAM

HD 4870/GTX 260 for 1680x1050 gaming, two GTX 260's or above or a 4850 x2 or above for higher-rez gaming

SSD hard drives, two of 'em in RAID0 config... Or two WD Velociraptors or just two 7200 rpm drives with 32mb cache.... in RAID 0.

... a hardware based sound card, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 or above

... and a PSU that can reliably run all this hardware...

Is that a good ballpark parts listing for you? :)

how about this motherboard, however, it is more of a "bat-out-of-hell"-class:

I'd go with one of the mid range Gigabytes. Just choose the CPU you want and they have a motherboard to match.
Also EVGA have some really nice enthusiast boards, but they are pretty pricey.

I'm not a fan of MSI or ASUS (but they do ok too), stay well clear or ASROCK.

I prefer their enthusiast board which is more of a "Pardaise by the Dashboard Lights" class

Whichever board you choose though, just don't let your meat loaf. ;)

Bob, Let's do it for America
The red white and the blue
If the president was standing here, I'm sure he would approve
I'll be a mighty soldier before this night is through
Let's do it for America, Bob, America wants us to

Just think about it, Bob
It would be like if we were doing it for the Statue of Liberty,
Or the Grand Canyon, or the New York Yankees,
It would be like if we were doing it for Disneyland

Yea, let's do it for America, Bob
The red white and the blue
It's not a lot to ask of us, our parents will approve
Tomorrow I'll be fighting and I'll win this war for you
Let's do it for America, we owe it to America
Let's do it for America, Bob, America wants us to!

Greased Lightning is from Grease thus the Grease and Grease 2 comments plus a few other musical comments thrown in just to spice it up. ;)

As for the motherboard, you need to give us more information like how much do you want to spend, what kind of cpu are you looking for (AMD, Intel, i7, Quad core etc.) then someone can give you more help.

What is that?

And for the record, I think just about any AM2+ board that can run a Phenom II can be a part of a Greased Lightning system... It's just gotta be able to unlock the multi. Heck my 770 board is able to run AOD and I've kicked up to 3.4ghz real easy.

Motherboard prices are ridiculous these days... seems like tons of enthusiasts have just unconsciously become ok with spending over $120 on a great motherboard. Personally I try not to spend over $80. And hell even if you're trying to go all-out on performance, you don't HAVE to spend over $120.
